Hell Gav, that is a bit extreme. I doubt whether anyone knows all the road rules & are only familiar with the everyday ones that apply to each of us plus a bit of common sense..

There could be a lot of licenses blowing in the wind.

In case you thought I was directing my comments to you John, I wasn't. I did mention TV and radio as well but, you're right, no one is obligated to engage in media of any kind though, I think we are all obligated to inform ourselves of the current rules. this can be easily done by flicking through the latest copy of the road rules - which I do from time to time.

IMHO any professional driver should be actively making themselves aware of any rule changes.

We wouldn’t need to keep expanding the road network then. We would however need to upgrade the public transport system. Not saying I know all the rules or you’d test everyone on all of them, but some of the major safety related ones should be mandatory to pass on my test. 😁👍

And with some of the crap I've seen....

that would be a very good thing, then anyone caught driving without a license gets a vehicle impoundment for upto 14 days (for a basic roadworthy ) plus all the fines, and fees. Only a licensed driver can pick up the vehicle after its had its basic roadworthy. After the fees were paid the vehicle could also be picked up early by the owner BUT only if they could demonstrate they had no reasonable knowledge that the driver was unlicensed.

In Tassie a few years ago , a very prominent official in his big Benz, crossed the white line which resulted in the death of a young lady.

Some don't even know the basic rules.

In QLD,ATM,the volume of traffic on the roads has dropped to less than 30% of what it usually is.

But the number of speeding fines issued is up 70%.

The Police are saying, because there is little traffic, people think they can speed.

    Are people that stupid?

    Seems they are.

Personally I don't understand how anyone on the road can say that they didn't know about the 40kmh hour rule.

    * It was advertised in the papers
    * It was advertised on the tv
    * It was advertised on the radio
    * People talked about it when it came in
    * I have seen it on overhead freeway signs
    * I have seen it on LCD displays in the back of police vehicles

And let's not forget the BLOODY GREAT BIG MOBILE ROADSIDE BILLBOARDS !!!

There is no way he is going to walk,he will be doing time for quite a while.

    Thats a very serious offence.

And as i said in another post,Police were involved,so he will get everything thrown at him.
