    Forum section for Bio Fuel

To the Moderators of this site.

Would be great to have a section of the forum that deals specifically with Bio fuels.
I have checked a few web sites and I am as confused as ever with all the conflicting information and opinions. These include if you have a TDI don't use biofuel including pure canola as the injectors are fouled and the oil system and fuel filters are plugged. If thats true I am restricted to using diesil and a small addition of bio. 5% ?

The claim that 100% bio fuel produces zero greenhouse gasses due the plants obsorbing CO2 during the plant growth works in our favour.

    What does everyone think?

An absolute must! BioD is available here, but I'm as confused as everyone else, I think. Didin't DIESEL (himself) create this motor to run on peanut oil?

My wife filled up our Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD at a service station in Minto (NSW) on the way to work. She put nearly 80 litres in before she saw the little, pale, half-torn piece of paper stuck to the pump stating that "this pump delivers biodiesel".

She freaked out as we've discussed the fact that B5 (5%) bio is OK for the CRD, but if the engine develops a problem of any sort, Daimler Chysler will VOID warranty. Apparently the 1,700-bar common-rail injectors that fire 5 times per cycle via piezo crystal valves control don't like bio. It the Jeep service department wants to have the fuel analysed, they can and will - and refuse warranty based on the result.

We found out that this pump was shelling out B50!!!! Ten times the recommended amount. There was NO warning or mixture written anywhere - it took a phone call to the head office to find out what the hell it actually was. Like the requirement to declare ethanol saturation in petrol, shouldn't the level of bio be declared at the pump as well?

PS Quiggers - yes - Diesel ran his engine at the Paris show at the turn of the century on peanut oil. You can do it these days as well with vegetable oil, but it needs to be pre-heated to 70 degrees celcius before it hits the injectors, otherwise it won't ignite well enough when under full compression.

I heard that on ABC radio a few weeks ago but apparently the first engine was designed to run on coal dust ...that would certainly void the warranty

How much is diesel roughly $1.40 - $1.50 per litre how much is Bio diesel to produce ?????????????????

How much is it replace rebuild a diesel engine up to $10,000.00

Personally I'd prefer my used chip fat on the compost as opposed to blocking up my filters

Same with diesel LPG a bloke at the local 4wd show was trying to sell $3000 - $6000 conversions but only showed very basic mechanical engines as demo's

I'd like to see more development in both areas before I'll consider puting either into my tank

    Nrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......! Wrong assumption!

The problem that users have when first using biodiesel, is that it is a great solvent of crud left behind in the fuel lines by the old dinosaur-juice diesel - and therefore flushes all the old crap out of the tank/lines and into your filter, clogging it. Simply replace the filters and then it's as "clean-as" for life from that point.
