If I was to employ some one, provided they were diligent, punctual & knew which was the correct end of a Screwdriver /& or a Spanner to use they'd get a job in my Gulag.

Had a position running a ledger and collecting in the cash. HR were sending through the CV’s and could not find any that seemed the right type. To be successful at this you need the right character in the person.

When went to HR to ask for advise and they said there were many more applications however the computer sorts on key words. Once of the mandatory ones is degree. Did not care what it was in just that the applicant had one

HR had decided that the company needed to up-skill the work force and having a degree was one of the new parameters they had set to achieve this

Spoke to a friend who said they were doing the same. This was as to obtain the same quality of people they were hiring 20 years ago they now need to go to someone with a degree. Used to hire people who had completed year 12 and did not want to go to university. We’re now hiring these same people only with a degree.

Role and salary had not changed. If anything these people were having more competition for jobs as due to supply not being connected to demand there were plenty of applicants who would on the past not have even considered this type of role asking for a position

In the end hired someone who had a degree in some kind of bio physics who worked out very well. Shame about all those years of effort they put in for the degree and the waste of the knowledge society has paid for though
Yes, I've heard of secretaries being required to have degrees, which seems odd.
