Are people really finding it hard to get work?

Recently we advertised 2 positions, I guess in the city you would consider them middle management.
The positions were Assistant Manager & Duty Manager, same job basically we just have to have a hierarchy as to who makes the decisions.
We got a whole 6 applicants??
The positions are well paid, $60000 +, include accommodation with all services including all living requirements & Wi-Fi, electricity, gas etc. There is also advancement opportunities in our other businesses.
We have filled the positions but if work is so scarce I just can not understand why we got so few applicants!
Yes, we are a bit remote & it is a bit out of the way but to me the positions seem an excellent way to earn money while saving a lot of money.
Even if you owned a house in Brisbane you could rent it out, be earning & pay it off in half the time.
So I'm wondering, are jobs really that hard to come by or are people just totally risk adverse?
Way back in the days of yore we came out to the far west of Gods own to get out of debt & get ahead. The original plan was 5 years, that was 1988, we just found we loved it & we did get out of debt & pretty much get ahead.
Maybe people just aren't prepared to miss their Lattes?

Add on the extra perks, and the greater portion of the 60k would be yours, not the banks or the landlords.
$300 per week in renal equivalent effectively adds another $15k to your wage, plus the other benefits.
As a base to explore the Gulf Country, Doomadgee wouldn't be too bad a spot!

With unemployment running at 19.7% in Doomadgee I would have thought that you would have been inundated with local applicants.
How many of the paltry 6 applicants that you did get were locals?

It is unlikely any of the locals have the necessary qualifications or experience.

I am pretty sure that you don't have to be a Rhodes scholar to work at a roadhouse and that on the job training would be provided just the same as pretty much any of the other hundreds of roadhouses that employ backpackers to work for them.

We're a very urban people now. I know people who refuse to move from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast because they say their families and friends wouldn't visit them. It's easier to stay put than to move.
Personally, we have moved a lot, so maybe we're unusual.

    Get out, Mick!

Seriously, I agree about the 'Urbanisation' of the population, especially with the group mentality of people of certain ages. In the late 70's, when work was a bit light on for me, we packed the old Kingswood and headed to the Isa, where I scored an underground role. This really got us on our feet, financially.

I still don't understand how the younger, trendy set can afford to frequent these 'Boutique Brewery', 'Gineries', trendy cafés and the like, that have mushroomed in Brissie and I'm assuming, elsewhere.
Hard to drag yourself away from that lifestyle, I suppose.

Eevo, I agree that, in this day and age, $60K is not regarded as a good wage but it's better than sitting on your arse, playing console games or 24 hour, social media mind numbing. (or spending hours on a forum devoted to whimsical automobiles!)
