Chief Little Wolf should have realised the FBI would nab him as soon as he got off the plane. IDIOT!
Here's how it works. The "carrier" of the nuclear codes is a military aide.;
If the president (who is commander-in-chief of the armed forces) decides to order the use of nuclear weapons, he or she would be taken aside by the "carrier" and the briefcase would be opened. A command signal, or "watch" alert, would then be issued to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Rather than "nuclear codes" that the President has memorized, there are several components in action when it comes time to destroy a country/continent/planet in one fell swoop: Codes and the Football. One set of codes are printed onto a card called "the biscuit" and given to the President as self-identification, like a password, Brookings reports
That’s where the “nuclear codes” come in. They aren’t codes to actually launch missiles, but to allow the president to prove he is authorized to order a launch. The codes are a list of letters on essentially a 3×5 card, called the “ biscuit,” which are updated daily
The president can not " launch " a nuclear attack by himself.
And from the " union of concerned scientists";
Trump and the Nuclear Codes: How To Launch a Nuclear Weapon - Union of Concerned Scientists (allthingsnuclear.org)
There was an American discussion on TV by some USA political heavies and they discussed this very thing. A telling comment was that the protocols were designed to help a President launch nuclear missiles or engage a foreign country/army with conventional weapons. It was not designed to inhibit a President from taking what ever action he thought appropriate.
Lighten up, Bob.
Just listened to a speech by Biden. Now , I don't know if Biden will be a great President or not, but let's admit it , after Trump ? He said something that is so true. He said " the President has finally ripped the band aid off , and revealed who he really is ". One thing about Biden , let me say this.
From FIASCO, the American military venture in IRAQ.;
Back in 2003 Biden was the Delaware Democrat who was the ranking minority member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee at its major pre War hearing on the up coming War in Iraq. The senators were not getting straight answers. Senator Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island noted "There's a kind of disconnect between the rhetoric we're hearing and all the rosy scenarios. Why aren't we hearing more about some worst case , and what are we prepared for in that instance? "
Senator Russel Feingold said " Why do we give the President a blank check [ sic] to go ahead with this before we had the answers to these questions?" Biden concluded " The American people have no notion of what we are about to undertake". It was an important observation about a democracy about to launch a war in a distant land, alien culture , and hostile region. But it was made in a tone of passive resignation. [ In other words there wasn't a thing he could do about it. ]
Thus started the war in Iraq, arguably the greatest stuff up in American military history. The war was won, but the peace was lost. I think Biden will not send Americans off on another such folly, and by association , Australians will not either. And that is a good thing.
