American Democracy is bruised and sore, so what happens next?
Video inside the Capitol included shots of crowbar-wielding, punch-throwing young men, but there was just as many senior citizens wandering around like giddy tourists in MAGA hats.

I think he has to be impeached (some say and convicted) under Article 413 IIRC which deals with "insurrection", he wouldn't be able to run for Pres. again. This makes sense as he has already been impeached in the House, but the Senate "convicts" which they didn't do last time. Therefore as things stand he can still run again and even if he wasn't able to, a lot of Rep's are afraid of the power he'd have as a "King maker".
I don't envy the Lawmakers, whatever they do they are between a rock and a hard place. They'll need the wisdom of Thomas Jefferson to sort this out without sending the USA into a downward spiral. 70% of the President's supporters have been polled to say they disagree with what he did. That leaves 30 % unhappy [ if you believe polls] . There are two examples of history that I would like to recall, and I stress this is only as an example, I'm not saying this would happen. In Germany, before WW2, a leader was jailed, where he wrote his manifesto. When he got out of jail, he had enough support from the public to take control of the country and lead it into WW2. Books have been written and lectures given over the years to try to figure out how the public , almost to a man, were conned into following this man and his philosophy right to the end. Are there parallels here? Not for me to say.
The US Civil war started in South Carolina , at Fort Sumter. Now I don't think another civil war is even possible. However an armed insurgency, from hard core radical followers is a definite possibility. That would be an absolute nightmare for the US Government. President Elect Biden has a minefield of problems to traverse, even before inauguration. How he comes out of this will determine the political face of the USA for generations , I'm thinking.
Now this is disturbing. One, he had concealed weapons and had been to the Capitol building. Two, he had home made napalm.
By running the plates on the truck, investigators learned it belonged to Lonnie Leroy Coffman, of Falkville, Alabama, the DOJ said.
Later in the night Coffman tried to return to his truck but was stopped by officers. He was carrying a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun, a 22-calibre derringer style handgun, and two sets of vehicle keys that matched the truck, according to prosecutors.

There seems little doubt that this was an attempted coup. A poorly planned and woefully executed one, that, without military involvement (and there is no hint of that) had zero chance of success. (But given the record of this administration, should anyone be surprised?)
It was clearly an attack on the Capitol specifically intended to prevent the confirmation by Congress of the election win by Biden, and as such, can only be described as an attempted coup.
