    Angry Electronics........Bah!!!!!

Not a good day today, picked up a new LCD TV we had on layby together with a set top box, big mouth me says oh yes I'll install that...........

Well, after clearing out all the old gear, knocking out some inbuilt brick shelves put in by the original owner, assembling about 5 km of connecting cords, all according to the mudmap given to me by the Retravision Dealer I turned it all on and lo and behold ............................more snow than on Mt Bulla at present, the DVD wont fire up at all, the new set top box although on doesn't seem to be doing anything and to top it off the antennae is not giving signal to both outlets in the house.

I've replaced the masthead amplifier, splitter box and balun connection but no difference.

To say i'm P***ed off is an understatement

Guess I'll just have to pay someone who knows about these things.

I gotta say the best $150.00 I ever spent was with Jim's Antenna's. I could'nt even tell what colour shirts the people were wearing on Ch31.
It turned out the signal was twice as strong as the aerial could cope with.
After all the new TV was $1500, so it was only another 10%.
It really is a black art

I'm annoyed 'cos the bedroom TV we bought just over a year ago has died and it's out of warranty - I suspect it's lost voltage to one or more of the tube grids - retrace lines are very visible and the screen is washed out. The trouble is that I'm not a TV tech and without a circuit diagram I'm lost in them.

It isn't worth repairing and I hate throwing stuff that should be repairable, out.

So we brought out the old Teac 34 cm TV to replace it. Hmm, can't find the remote. No worries, we'll do it by pressing the button on the front.

Nope, whilst we can switch it into standby mode with the front panel switch, it won't switch on without the remote. OK. We'll buy a multipurpose remote. Nope. Of the ones we tried, about the only TVs they won't work with are Teac.

what model exact is Teac I may have original remote
And if I do I will send you for free.
Retrace lines could be faulty tube on your other one. Was not very common in old days but just last week I had 2 rowa with faulty tubes under warranty...not good.
How far out of warranty is it.
Most manufact will give you some grace a long as its not too far out of date...or they will supply parts free but u pay lab.
What Brand is the other one and model as well please

$150 for the arial???? Wish thats what it cost me for my useless thing. When we moved in 3 years ago instead of doing it myself I decided that it can't be that expensive so got the local people in to sort out the arial. $455 later I had a new arial, new boster and still crap reception. Arial is now lying in the yard after I took it down for the renovations and I can't see any incentive to bother if it won't work.
I did learn to ask for a quote before letting people start any work. Cos I will not pay that kind of money again for TV without a guarantee that it will be perfect or my money back.

Hope you get yours sorted quick and easily

They have a self destruct program built into the timer. To avoid this, you must never set the time and date, then it won't know when to self destruct, or set the year as 2099.

Sony were the first to come out with this built in redundency, but now everyone does it.

    I'm not paranoid, just dissillusioned.
