Back in July last year it was a freezing cold day with a bitter southerly blowing. Wind chill factor was high. Pooch and I were crossing some mown park land and were startled to see we'd disturbed a snake. It was a recently shed black. It took off with a great turn of speed heading back to the rocks some ten metres away where I guess it called home. To see an active snake lying in ankle long grass and moving so quickly on such a cold day rewrote
my book of snake knowledge.
It's not unusual to see Copperheads out and about over winter but they generally don't panic when we quietly walk past them. They are usually right beside the place they call home.....never any distance from home.
Still winter here in the West, Not expecting Summer until December some time as we usually have Spring first[biggrin]
Winter?

PS Not looking forward to Summer, think I'm getting to old for over 45 degrees & humidity that makes you sweat in the shower.

Currently 5.5 deg C ambient out there but feels like 0 to 2 deg C with wind chill from the 36kph wind from the south.
Alternating between hail/sleet/sunshine here on the flats and I can see snow up on the hills. [biggrin]
No sign of new growth yet in the patchy parts of our lawn, so the mower remains in the shed for now. Nice shower overnight.
As Trout noted, last time I checked summer was scheduled to arrive on December 1.
