The NSW government has absolutely NOTHING to "Skite" about with its **** poor responses to this pandemic and why is it that many from NSW are always "Bagging" WA about its COV19 responses when WA has fared a thousand times better that the Gold standard State has over the last couple of years.
In NSW we are learning to live with this virus not putting our heads in the sand and hoping it will go away. The fact I was referring to was corroborated research that shows that WA has the lowest ICU bed rate per capita in the country. WA has plenty of $$ but your gold standard premier has trouble putting his hand in his pocket and tooling up to face the inevitable flood of cases. As for the mysterious backpacker. How the hell did he get in when an SAS team would be hard pressed to get through the hoops and checks they have in place. Methinks this patsy will be used to open up early and the gold standard premier wont have to eat his words. He will however blame everyone but himself for the fallout.

Media Statements - Massive funding boost for health in State Budget

Is NSW putting up this sort of money for health on a per capita basis?

The backpacker got in from QLD which at that stage wasn't deemed a health threat, He simply got off the aircraft and didnt do anything illegal.

NSW and VIC are learning to live with this virus simply because they allowed it to get completely out of hand and don't have a choice in the matter they have also reduced the COV19 safety measures at the same time and if you think that this progessive thinking then you are deluded.

WA is waiting until there is at least a 90% vaccination rate for those 12+ in the State and when they do open it won't be open slather like some of the other States, This is progressive thinking

Maybe NSW doesn't need to throw huge sums of money at ICU, this is an interesting chart, WA notionally has a surge capacity to get to 18 beds/100,000 people but currently has 6. NSW has 10.8 and can surge to 24.6
Increasing ICU capacity to accommodate higher demand during the COVID‐19 pandemic | The Medical Journal of Australia

with 70% of those in ICU being unvaccinated hopefully neither will be needed

Isn't not allowing an "open slather" opening a bit like being half pregnant, what are their plans for that?

Victoria still, as always, requires QR codes and recently reinstated the requirement for masks to be worn indoors at all times, so what Covid safety measures have we reduced?

Perhaps you're confusing Victoria with NSW.

We’re currently in Mildura and I reckon the mask wearing is running at 40% in the hotel. Add to that the pdf file that was updated on dec 15 on the Victorian covid site contradicts the advice given on other pages when it comes to the rules around mask wearing. the pdf
From the .pdf - Latest statewide settings "Masks are required indoors only in limited settings including retail (except hair and beauty), health care, aged care and justice facilities, at primary schools and on public transport/taxis/rideshare."

I think once we all have a Booster that should be it - we’re all going to get it at some stage now, just a matter of when. Also looks like the numbers are dropping in South Africa so we could follow suit in around 4 or 5 weeks.

There's SFA in that budget relevant to population. Most of it is capital over the next 5 years. There's bugger all in there that's going to result in any measurable improvement in the next 24 months, because their biggest liability is hiring and training, and there's nobody to hire and therefore nobody to train.

This is "Oh **** people are starting to notice we've done nothing but made it worse for the last 6 years, we'd better make some big promises". "Yes Minister".

Right now it's still just promises.

Hit the nail on the head with NSW, I'm stunned with how it has been handled and it has totally and utterly blown up in Sydney. I think the numbers are only a small part of what is really going on. Notifications Service NSW have gone ballistic, I'm hearing from friends the RAT isnt identifying covid until very late and I suspect a significant number of cases are not being reported. I've just got home and am pleased to be out of Sydney, it is literally everywhere there.

When WA opens up I wouldn't be under the impression that they wont be too different to what we have seen - it all starts small and then blows up. NSW is very well vaccinated but there seems to be a lot of break through infections still.
    Cheers

I had a a phone call yesterday afternoon with a niece of mine yesterday afternoon. She is slowly recovering from covid after time in hospital and ICU after getting infected in Orange on 6/12, positive on 9/12. And only on New year's Eve well enough to talk on the phone.

She is fully vaccinated, but was infected in ten minutes close contact (getting stuff out of the boot of a car together) with someone who was asymptomatic at the time (but had sniffles and diagnosed the next day). Both unmasked but open air. Three days later was quite sick, tested and diagnosed. Deteriorated very rapidly on 19/12 and was rushed to hospital and ICU. Released from hospital a couple of days ago, but is expected to still be off work for weeks more, still struggling to keep blood oxygen up if doing anything except resting. She is a registered nurse, but working in management of covid.

This is the reality of the health crisis - someone has to be found to fill that hole in the organisation for probably two months from a single case. This example shows the issues NSW Health (and every health organisation) is facing.

That pretty much shows up the latest close contact definition to be the load of rubbish the ama and others have been saying it is
