My dad is in a private hospital. As of today they have banned all visitors bar 4 specific exceptions, none of which my mother qualifies for. I've suggested to her she ask for an exemption as a "birthing partner" as my father has just given birth to a large tumour by cesarean section, but it turns out the hospital has no sense of humour.

When properly quizzed, the reason for the ban (unlike the public hospital across the road) is people kept coming in knowing full well they were COVID positive and lying about it. The public hospital has the same issue, but the rules state they can't prevent partners from entering regardless of their status. Yay WA!

Brad - can’t imagine what your Mum and Dad make of this.

In my opinion (and I respect others will have a different view), this really should be a decision for your Dad and Mum to make. I’m guessing both are vaccinated as well. I wonder if the private hospital thought to ask its patients what they want.

Could easily isolate those that want to be isolated and allow others to make informed choices and use rapid testing/insist on showing vaccination status etc etc.

Out of interest, assuming your Dad could - can they stop him leaving the hospital?

I've done work for this place and others in the "group" over the last 12 years. The rot sets in when they remove all the clinicians from management and replace them with MBA's. So no, they actually don't care what the patients actually want and rarely listen to any feedback other than to dismiss it as "too expensive". I've suggested he transfer across the road to the Public hospital where spouses are allowed to visit.

The real issue here though is the not insignificant number of Perth people who's attitude is to ignore the rules when it's not convenient for them. I've met more than a few recently who've said they won't bother taking a test even if they develop symptoms because it'll just mean they're inconvenienced. Same as the clever mob who can't figure out how to or won't put a mask on properly. Thick, selfish front bottoms.

They'll be inconvenienced if they can't breath or drop dead .

I'm not worried about that, I'm more concerned about the people (who are trying to do the right thing) they infect along the way.

This is a problem Australia wide, It isn't solely a "Perth" phenomenon.

I'm sure it is, but I'm reporting personal experience and as I haven't been anywhere else since December 2020 I can't comment on the other locations. I can say that by December 2020 the majority of those in Victoria had learned the hard way that the rules are in place for a reason, even if they personally don't agree with them.

I have yet to see anyone without a mask or wearing it incorrectly since the mask mandate came into effect in Geraldton.

Surprisingly over this neck of the woods, since the floods,i havent heard Covid mentioned by anyone or the media.

It seems to have gone the way of the dinosours, for the time being anyway.

Masks have disappeared for most as well.
