There was an excerpt in The Age today from a new book about what happened in Wuhan when Covid broke out. It's quite harrowing.
Anyone who has been running the argument that "autocracies are great, because look how well the Chinese did with Covid" is going to have to reassess their views.
It's a fair bet that it's not going to be available in the PRC, not least because it illustrates how classist the PRC is, particularly for undocumented workers.

Down the rabbit hole is not a place to beThe BA2 news is 2twice as infections - Not seeming to be any more or any less deadly than bog standard BA1 ( Omicron ) apparently
Kids yesterday were cool and calm Easter eggs and I did it badges and out the door quickly was fine with almost all. Doing them after school. Not done till after 7pm tonight. The sheep dog role and notes and other roles got me to 20,000 steps yesterday- I did run 5000 odd after work.
Other news is boosters are working well against Ba1 and Ba2. Add the company that used me for a guinea pig is doing a big staff recruiting drive in OZ. That's a covid vax and flu vax. I thought of opening Flu Vax at the end of this month. Doctors want me to hold fire to the end of April to provide better coverage from the vaccine up to usual peak flu period later in the year. We will be slow on that 'Unless a flu outbreak happens' which as yet is Zilch happily
I remember talking to a statistician a few years ago with a medical background and she said "statistically" the best time to get the Flu jab was late August - early Sept, because that was just before the annual peak leaving the vaccine efficacy at its highest.
It made sense to me at the time but I did wonder if more people were jabbed earlier if it'd reduce the magnitude of the peak. When you re-phrase that "reduce the magnitude" into "flatten" it starts to sound all too familiar.
I will get any jab which my learned wife advises me to. It just makes things soooo much easier!
Edit: perhaps I'd argue about a large dose of insulin between the toes.
'sit bonum tempora volvunt'
Like when the anesthetist said to my wife when she was rolling over for her emergency epidural "You'll feel a little *****", my response of "that's what got her into this in the first place" was not well received by her. He on the other hand had probably heard it a thousand times before.
