Yes, I masked for my flights, and practice good hygiene, and I'm no stranger to Melbournite behaviour either, so imagine my surprise to find out last weekend that my sore throat was covid - because I'd been delivering tech preso's at our melb office all week.
Well I was surprised. Because I had similar symptoms maybe 4 months ago, and did not feel 'ill' or that it was covid, and I was good within 48hrs.
This time... exactly the same symptoms, razor blade throat... but on sunday, I got the sweats. Rat.... and boom. Life is over.
I'm still in iso in Brisbane with family, and still testing +ve, still have crap on my lungs and I'm vax'd.
But QLD health are a bunch of idiots and covid reception for those who follow the website directives is nothing short of a joke. Communication could not be more ambiguous - i.e. they just don't want to know.
and the fed site isn't any better, nor is the phone service if you happen to call on a sunday night following a positive rat and you have registered it online.
So when you trot off to A&E to get your antivirals (like every good citizen who follows covid online flowchart guidelines and public health directives) they charge you $300 and give you sweet f.a. and then proceed to tell you that the published criteria you followed which gave cause for you to attend, are not the same criteria by which you are being assessed. WTF.
Gouge? you betcha.
Can you trust your public health system to look after you if you are covid +ve? F-k no.
What's a PCR test again? QLD health have forgotten - they just acknowledge your +ve rat and have zero interest in what variant you may have.
Stay at home, if you have trouble breathing, don't make your way to a hospital like I did, call 000 and make the system work.
It also taught me something - something that I now understand after having successfully avoided it for 3 years.
There's an obvious direct correlation to severity of symptoms versus vax status.
Everyone I was in direct contact with (family in melb and here in bne) have had at least 3 innoculations. I only had the first 2 pfz's. Nearly everyone else I had been in contact with while infected has ALREADY HAD covid. So guess how many of them have come back with a positive rat test in the last week?
absolutely noone.
from the 100+ coworkers I was in contact with in confined recirculated hvac for a week, to all the family I hugged and kissed while infected, plus family I am staying with now.
none of them have returned a positive rat - and not just one rat either.
SO make of that what you will.
My conclusion is, despite my bad physiological reaction to the first two pfz jabs, the currency of the jab obviously has an efficacy curve.
If I'd had a third jab, maybe I wouldn't be having as bad a time here with this variant. *speculative*
I'm not pro vax or anti-vax, I'm pragmatic about everyone having their right to exercise how and what they do with their own body, and the governments also MUST respect that, instead of the abhorrent bull**** they pulled 3 years ago.
What has their behaviour led to? really poor uptake of all vaccinations - and it's no wonder - when you have dipwad politicians calling the shots and health advice that is not impartial or independent of corporate and state influences.
Doesn't matter what we all think... the virus exists, it is a problem, it isn't trivial, and for those who 'have been vaxxed to the hilt' well let's also see how that continues to pan out. It would be good to see if the efficacy improves with a more longterm effective innoculation - like a tetanus booster, although I doubt that big pharma would compromise profits.
Like I said, having seen those around me with more shots having no symptoms it also tells me that there is still a lot of covid running around, but people have better immune response if they've had jabs, and if you haven't had covid, you're going to get it eventually - but how bad that variant is.... how bad you get 'it'... roll the dice.
If you're not from a major capital city and you are visiting and haven't had a jab..... guess what your odds are....

I think that I would have been far more accepting of a 3rd innoculation if they did not rush the phase 3 clinical trials, and our idiot in charge didn't behave so appallingly towards the nations population.
Well, I got a good clear 3 year run. That's how I see it. I also can't make that -ve rat happen quickly enough.
It's one thing to be aware of the issues that faced infected people during those lockdowns, but in self-isolation with no enforced lockdown, it is only too easy to understand how some people suffered serious mental health issues.
I reckon there are more than a few members here who ought to consider that others might not have a stong presence of mind to cope with this scenario when confronted with it - or worse - may not have any support.
Let me tell you - it's boring as bat guano even if you've got the minerals to handle it with ease. Doesn't stop you from having the contemplation and reflection on how it must have been for some other poor bugger who was less fortunate.
If someone you know gets it - at least offer them assistance. Especially if they are not in a co-habitual environment. Perhaps your siblings or parents or kids... or friends maybe a neighbour.
I've had no end of support from family and friends and it's made the boring hours laying in bed coughing up my liquid lungs actually bearable and I'm appreciative of the distraction it provides.
Plus, I'm good for a laugh and having one at my expense is fine - I'm not thin skinned.
But, some other poor bugger might be struggling with it. So be a genuine human and be kind to someone who might need it, rather than **** and moan about vaxxers conspiracies or antivaxxer conspiracies and all the pointless drivel that people are becoming consumed with.
You never know... being kind to someone instead of being a complainer might just be infectious.
I am sure many medical experts would agree that only 2 doses is not considered as being vaccinated for exactly the reasons you concluded. You need that 3rd booster - if not 4th.Quote:

Speaking of toxic medicines ..... a colleague who was in hospital for a minor procedure - but under a general anaesthetic - ended up in ICU. They'd had generals before, so there shouldn't've been any issues but they had a very bad reaction to the anaesthetic.
