My elderly mother (95) is 4x vaccinated and got Covid for the first time late last year - was no worse than the cold she had 2 months earlier. I am sure she would have died if she had not been vaccinated and given the anti virals. There have been 3 outbreaks in her nursing home in the past year and no deaths.

In my uncle's nursing home - the same as my mother's, there have been no covid deaths for quite a while despite residents getting it from staff and visitors. At 87 he had it last April but was asymptomatic - only found out through screening

I am sure there will be some vaccinated people who are currently dying but most will be unvaccinated.

You can help people who want help

The case numbers and spread is very constrained happily. Vaccines and prior exposure is making Covid just "one of those virus" we all live with all of the time. That is or appears mostly Seasonal was fairly predictable

I was talking to a nephew in Rocky, this week and he and his wife have had it twice. The first time was cold like, but the second really sat them on their bums, apparently. Both pretty fit and up to pace with vaccines, too.

2nd and 3rd times seem a interesting event. Especially with long covid outcomes apparently. That is a bit spooky for a running nut

we know the older vaccines only gave a bit of protection for 6 ish months from getter the Virus. They gave a lot longer protection from getting 'Dead' happily.

RACGP suggest "More evidence has emerged suggesting people who are unvaccinated are at higher risk of ongoing COVID-19 symptoms 28 or more days after infection.

The finding is based on a US cohort study of 1832 adults, published in JAMA Network, which examined factors associated with persistent post-COVID-19 symptoms, and how the associated medical presentations for these symptoms change over time.

The researchers discovered that while COVID-19 is associated with increased medical presentations in the six months post-infection, being vaccinated against the disease may lower the risk of long-term symptoms."

Nothing in life is perfect- except for you of course

    Have a great weekend all

ah some comments and observations are hilarious , I wonder what the expected or average life expectancy of an Australian male is compared with the average age of death from covid??

A few years ago, when the UK 'Use-By'. date was 82 years old, the average age - in Care Homes - dying from/With covid was......84

I have the impression that the medical profession is still learning about COVID. It seems that more treatments are being found as a result of rigorous trials.

While it certainly seems that Azithromycin is another useful arrow in the quiver of treatments available, it is important to remember that like all treatments, there is the possibility of side effects. Some of those side effects sound quite serious.

    According to this site:

    Prescribing azithromycin - Australian Prescriber

While some people would like to believe that there is a single product that is some sort of magic bullet, the truth appears to be that this drug, like all others has the risk of side effects. Consequently it is probably best administered under medical supervision after consideration of whether the benefits outweigh the risks.

I believe that the fact that medical science is still finding new treatments is proof that all the restrictions put in place over the last couple of years were justified. It avoided things spiralling out of control until medical science found ways to have some semblance of control over the problem.

Like the recent admission from TGA. head Vet, that they opposed IVM. and HCQ. on the basis that NOT doing so might encourage. 'vacs hesitancy'.
-- Nothing to do with efficacy etc. A replacement or even 'supplementary treatment' for covid may unleash legal consequences to their Emergency Use.

'Science'. above ? - Replace with "Big Pharma" who want to control any and everything related to medicine. In the USA, the. FDA. is - again - targeting Natural things such as herbs, aloe vera. medicinal plants. Your spice rack is under siege ! - eg. Turmeric and cinnamon. Once suitably Declared, a raft of legal and labelling obligations is placed upon suppliers, onerous to the point of Big Business only being able to cope. Seriously.

I had something like a really, really bad case of influenza in November - I did a RAT but it was negative, but apparently not all RATs pick up Omicron.

My son was on Azith for 3 separate rounds of treatment. Once for several months. Those side effects can be as serious as they sound. We were monitoring his liver function 3 times a week with a very real threat of irreversible liver damage. The steroids he was on to try and counter some of those other side effects were pretty nasty also. It's not a drug I'd like to take unless I *really, really* needed it.
