    BABY Its BACK

Townsville's public hospital under pressure as 106 staff test positive to COVID-19

Seen hundreds of cases in Nursing Homes and public over the last week. Am I a NOVID if its about two years ago?

The local post office has 19 staff off! Xmas mail might NOT get delivered is a rumor here.

Take care if vaccinated type or not.

    I had it last week.
I up to then had 5 vaccinations and COVID once last year.
We were at the doctors for something else, test results etc and she suggested we have vaccination number 6 which we did. I had tested negative that day as I felt a little "doggie"
Next day positive RAT and had quite a bad COVID.
I was able to get the anti viral tablets (retail $1013) and they subjectively helped a lot.
I had to isolate because we live in a Retirement Village. Anyway have had 2 negative RATS so now out and about.
    Not Fun.
    Regards PhilipA
I do not know if the 6th Pfizer made it better or worse but should have no effect I guess because itis supposedly dead virus.

Was obviously back in a big way a month ago, when chemists and supermarkets on the eastern side of Geelong had all run out of RATs.

Libraries had them for free around here.

Just did a first aid course in Melbourne. Train in was uneventful. One the way back a cough PLUS kept up for the whole trip. I bailed to the far end then swapped to the next carriage. It may not have been it of course.

A state I heard from Prof Sutton here that 1 in 20 get long covid scares my running socks off Once was enough for me! Statistical escalation to the long covid risk is not something I want to prove to myself!!!

When I was younger, I thought Leslie Knauer was pretty hot! (The girl in the band)

On topic and 'Touch Wood', I still haven't had covid, as far as I know! I'm not that social, though.

    I work in a team of 5 ....

.... of whom 2 have had Covid in the last month. We all work remotely, in fact I hadn't seen one of these colleagues in person for at least 3 months, so they weren't getting it from each other. And they live in very different parts of Melbourne, so it's evidently circulating in the community.

    USA

    "Back to normal" article:

Life for Australians in Seattle, America's most vaccinated city, is getting back to normal

But deaths in Washington State are still averaging 10 a day, so it's a fairly deadly "normal".

ICUs in Alaska and Washington under stress:

The US generally is still getting 700 deaths a day - which is +95% in the last month - for a total of 624,365 deaths:

    • Hospitalizations nationwide now exceed every previous peak except last winter’s. More than 700 deaths are being reported each day, on average, a figure that has more than doubled since the start of August. Deaths have so far remained far below past records, but can lag case data by weeks.

    Italy

This article provoked a fair bit of anger:

COVID-19 and international borders: I returned from Australia to Rome, where locals can't believe our restrictions

    Actual situation in Italy?

69 deaths yesterday, 54 the day before for a total of 128,579 deaths:

ROME: Italy reported 69 coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday (Aug 18) against 54 the day before, the health ministry said, while the daily tally of new infections increased to 7,162 from 5,273.
Italy has registered 128,579 deaths linked to COVID-19 since its outbreak emerged in February last year, the second-highest toll in Europe after Britain and the eighth-highest in the world. The country has reported 4.46 million cases to date.

I could go on, but won't. Israel will be a separate post.

BLOODY HELL! I wasn't aware it was still making that impact. Thanks. I think.

I did one at work just before Christmas. We were sharing dummies for CPR training. Two days later one of my colleagues tells us that she had Covid during the course. Luckily, as far as I'm aware, no-one caught it from her.
