an article in "The Saturday Paper" is the start of it being reported in mainstream media
Exclusive: Covid-19 hospitalisations three times higher than reported | The Saturday Paper
a little quote from the article
sighOn Tuesday, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the “most recent figure I have for the rate of hospitalisation was 5.5 per cent in terms of cases converting to hospitalisation”. The real figure, however, is about 15 per cent, according to medical experts and a briefing provided to national cabinet.
On Thursday, the state reported almost 1000 people with Covid-19 were in hospital and 160 of those were receiving the most complex form of healthcare in intensive care units.
But that figure leaves out almost 1700 people who are receiving hospital-grade care for coronavirus in their own homes in NSW. Most of those are being monitored by staff from the swamped Westmead Hospital in the state’s Western Sydney Local Health District. Under these arrangements, patients who would otherwise be on the hospital ward are instead given oxygen and other support at home with scheduled visits from hospital staff.
At least eight people in the state have died at home since the Delta outbreak began.

In the next week or two Modena vaccine will be available via many Chemists. It is similar to the Pfizer vaccines. The best vaccine is the very first one you can get as soon as available where ever you can get it. Both Pfizer and Moderna are restircted to people under 60.
If you know your Chemist I would suggest asking quietly if you can be on their waiting list. The reception and counter are unlikely to be aware of the details yet. Please don’t ring them. Our phones are often overwhelmed on the topic and are needed to provide the services we all need normally.
Many chemist are also providing Astra Zeneca vaccines now.
The Victorian School VCE Priority details will be out from the schools this week. That is likely to be the fastest method for VCE students! Please don’t ring them. Our phones are often overwhelmed on the topic and are needed to provide the services we all need normally.
We are a little overwhelmed at present with the addition of the 12 to 39 year olds two weeks ago.
Good news for you Inc. Second Dose Az is a breeze mate. Almost zero side effects regardless of the impact of the first one.

20 new community cases in NZ today (all in Auckland) and sadly one death.
Thank you for the vindication.Originally Posted by incisor;[URL="tel:3107271"
I suggest mods close the covid threads if you don’t want the unprecedented mishandling of this health crisis discussed - because it’s inseparable from the topic.
Its interesting. I understand NSW paramedics after in real trouble trying to keep up impacting on more mundane EMERGENCY careNo question all hospitals are under pressure and diverting anything they can getting prepared for the un-vaccinated hoard about to descend on them

Have to add covid counting in NSW is a known questionable issue. They time it over 14 days I heard compared to 28 days here in Vic and other states. I think it was in this one.
On a very bright note I see Moderna which is about to go out via Chemists I think, is now set for 12 year olds and up to 59.![]()
As I posted in the old thread, one of my oldest friends is an ER/ICU/cardiac specialist nurse who worked here and overseas at famous hospitals for almost 40 years and she's walked away from it altogether because of what she went through last year. As I understand it, her issue was that the ER was being run by people with no experience in medicine who were applying inappropriate management techniques.

Here it is
"Norman Swan: Well, the decoupling, if you don't compare apples with apples…so I'm going with data analyst Juliette O'Brien who we use quite a lot, and who is very reliable, and what she shows is that New South Wales changed the rules about what it describes as an active case. And so they are using…I think they go back 30 days, creating a 30-day average for their cases, whereas Victoria creates a 14-day average for their cases…describe their hospitalisation rate. And that's really important because in fact most of your hospitalisations are going to occur within 14 days rather than 30 days. If you do 30 days the rate is lower, it's under 5%, whereas if you go 13-, 14-day average, thereabouts, it's higher, and it shows much less, if any, decoupling at all. So if you change the rules, you get a different result."

As a forensic or reconstructive accountant in another former life I found rubbery number seem to get BIGGER with every extra Zero on the headline number.NSW has seemed to manipulate the numbers by changing the data range!
