Fortunately I bought rapid antigen tests a couple of weeks ago - Costco had plenty at the time, which surprised me as I expected they'd be like toilet paper and everyone would be grabbing them.

Let me fix that for you

Perth (and the rest of WA) has locked OUT the rest of Australia.

The hard borders stance by WA has so far prevented extended lockdowns and the financial pains associated with these lockdowns

The "let it rip" attitude by some of the States is proving to be a complete cockup so far, Thank the Gods that WA hasn't followed the other sheep to slaughter by opening up its borders to one and all.

Quoting McGowan today...."Western Australia has recorded five new cases of Covid-19 and may not be able to “crush and kill” the outbreak sparked by a French backpacker who visited multiple spots across Perth."

Sounds like softening the punters up for a widespread covid event to me
