Lateral Flow Tests ("RATS" for us ?) are showing up to 20% False NEGATIVEs. That is, one in five "All Good"[/I].... are actually Bbad News

Going t'other way, only 2.5% of LFTs give a FAKE Positive.
Or, one in 40 gets worried over nothing.

Other 'biggie' is the UK govt has issued NEW and Improved, whiter-than-white.... Symptoms Guidelines. Predictably, not that great.

Better revised list from Prof. Spector, showing the rate of reporting which is more useful, is :-

Runny nose - 82% Fatigue 72% Headache 69% Sore throat 69%

Sneezing 68% Persistant cough 54% Hoarseness 47% Chills / shivers 36%

Joint pains 33% Dizziness 30% Brain fog / lost Plot 28% SORE EYES 25%

and SMELL- loss or change, 24% Aches all over...23% Also tinnitus. ??%

Good News is 'Loss of Appetite', Bad News is... only 20-ish %

Now confirmed by PCR test but is asymptomatic.

Now I find that amazing - he is 87 and has quite a few underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, probable colon cancer, poor circulation, mucus on the lungs and continuing bladder infections but is asymptomatic - only picked up via a routine RAT but he is fully vaccinated.

About three months ago a young Canberra guy dies from Covid - he is 21yo, 100% fit, an athletic with low body fat and no underlying medical conditions and vaccinated to the required level of the time - actually died quite quickly, yet while many older people do die, many like my uncle survive quite well.

My guess there is still a lot more to learn about Covid

While we are at it.....
The existing Covid thread has caused much angst and work for the Mods and Admins. The Mods and Admins are determined that the new version will be more harmonious and less time consuming. To this end, the rules of access will be strictly enforced. Personal attacks, aggressive and parochial posts in particular will be deleted and infractions issued. Links with little or no discussion and plagiarism will also be removed, with infractions delivered.
As this is basically a technical thread, off topic and banter will no longer be acceptable.
The stricter stance has been bought about by the new Google Adsence rules, about to be enforced upon this site by Google and the the inordinate amount of time the moderation team has had to devote to the old thread.

Seems like all this has been forgotten, in line with the softening of the general population's expectations of controlling covid in the triple vaxed era where people are still getting seriously ill and maybe even dying.
