So true but unfortunately, bacteria being opportunistic may also cause an infection when a person is under attack from a viral infection - the common cold, a viral infection, can be accompanied with an opportunistic bacterial infection but this does need to be diagnosed.
But the often request by patients to their doctor for antibiotics when diagnosed with a cold or flu is nonsense unless a bacterial infection has also been diagnosed.
