Call me suspicious if you want to but just seems like big brother (Telstra) may be listening to you

    You have phones right?
    You’re on forums right?
    You use plastic payments?

Why would you even think “they” give a hoot about Joe public.

They’re more likely to be interested in your viewing habits to direct content rather than your lounge room chat.

Yep. I couldn't give a tinker's cuss about it. Pure of both mind and habits and my body is a temple.

The only content I'd be receiving would be from the likes of Steeden, Kookaburra, Grey Nicolls and assorted motorcycle and surf board companies.

When you have your phone in your pocket, sitting around with a few mates talking about something for a while and the next day on gumtree/google etc the pop ups are about that same subject you have to really think “who gives a hoot about what joe public think”, not me but obviously someone else does
The apprentice didn’t believe me so he tried it, talking about dog collars to everyone he talked to (they wondered why he was talking about dog collars when he doesn’t even own a dog), sure enough all his pop ups we’re trying to flog him dog collars

My phone gets left in the office at home where I can here it ring if someone try’s to call
The only forums I’m on are about Land Rovers (and yes I get pop ups about Land Rovers)
And plastic payments are usually only for work or online, I take out cash from the bank and spend that wherever possible

What I do is my business, what you do is your business, I don’t want to know everyone else’s problems, I have enough of my own and the government works for me (and every other Australian citizen) so as my employee, I only tell the government what I want them to know
As for Telstra, Google and all the other companies that want to know my business, they can all go and get ****ed

I've been really happy with the first Hisense i bought. A guy i worked with used to work in the industry and reckoned most of the screens in the name brands were actually made by Hisense. They had a 3 year, in home, replacement warranty, which i put to the test a while back.
I originally bought a 47" for our tiny lounge. the power supply for it died about two years in, i contacted Hisense and they were organising a tech to come out but they were dragging their heels a bit. After a week, they contacted me and said there was a problem. I instantly thought the worst that they were going to give me the run around, but to my surprise, they said they "no longer make a 47" TV, will a 50" be ok as a replacement?"
The guy turned up a couple of days later with a new TV with the active 3D glasses (we only used them about twice - fad!), didn't even bother looking at the other TV.
We just bought a 65" UHD LED for our other place, another Hisense.
Good prices and a good product all around.

You can stop all that if you don't have an on-line identity. if you have an apple ID or a google chrome ID, then the bot will hear product names and feed you suggestions.
I was talking about the old Ford Bronco with a mate at a cafe, the next day I was getting pop-ups about Ford Broncos for sale.
I have no one to blame but myself. I have a google ID and use chromecast and google home devices. I use chrome for remembering millions of passwords, nothing important like bank details or the like, but for all the other things that you can't access on the web without signing in to them.
But you'd really have to be a little irrational to believe that google is listening to the content of your conversations, they are looking for product names and types so they can feed you junk mail.

If Google were not listening to your conversation, how did they know you were talking about Ford Broncos and hence the pop up ads?

Can't have it both ways, they were either listening or not.

And if you turn your phone completely off (ie; no phone calls) are they still listening? I don't know...

"They" is an "it" do you think there is a panel of people listening to your conversation?

If you say to the device, "Google/Siri etc, is stupid." Do you get inundated with inappropriate and/or irrelevant ads, for revenge?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Perhaps Australian political parties' propaganda?
