Thanks - understand it monitors feed in but does it actually monitor what is being fed in.
So to be clear for example if you got stuck with out adblue if you filled the adblue tank with water which is 67% of adblue content how would the car know??
This is a selective catalytic process with monitoring as part of a closed loop chemical process. At a minimum it has a catalyst temperature sensor and an NOx sensor post-catalyst. Feed it water and the catalyst won't hit its temperature parameters and the NOx will skyrocket. The ECU will notice it's asking for A and getting B as a result.Quote:

Cummins and Volvo can tell if it's Ad-Blue or water, I imagine othet motors do, too.

Had multiple farmers either water down the Adblue to make it go further or left it in the sun (which evaporates the water content) and we always had issues with their systems. Even had to replace a 10k catalyst once..
Apparently all Ad-Blue equipped vehicles are able to moniter the Ad-Blue quality. Interference with the system attracts severe penalties.
There is a world wide shortage of urea, that could become critical early next year.

That link doesn't go to any report I could find re import/export of Ad-Blue.
