Stay safe everyone, watching the news and feel for anyone caught in the flooded areas - no river or flooded road crossing heroes please.

We used our insurances recommended repairer about a year & half ago , they quoted $12,000 to replace two whirlybirds , three roof tiles , three colour bond sheets on our pergola & the pool heater solar panels , took then a year to complete the work . The pool heater panels installed was around $3,000 so they pocketed $9,000 for less than a days work & less than $500 in materials. No wonder our insurance is so expensive . I should have taken the Insurance Co's offer to pay me out , could have done it all in less than a week & for less than $6,000. This is going to make it even worst.

Word of advice which you probably realise by now. Apologies 1950.
Never ever (I know that is bad grammar according to my primary school teacher of yore but she probably won't read this. )

never pay anyone all the money up front. Pay only for the work done by Progress Claims on presentation of their invoice. Usually that sorts out the Bushrangers from the Bank Managers, not always, but it lets them know you are keeping them honest.

Sort of like "Oh ****, this guy means business."

I'll move it Des, even the longest bow can't make it fit into a flood thread.

Ok, as far as I'm concerned it is General Chat. I had to place it somewhere & really could not locate Flight (I can now of course)

It'll last a lot longer in flight, Des. It will be lost and buried within days, in GC.

The Ukes will be happy about that, it was being on the ground that buggered it. I get it..

I feel your pain! Having previously learned the hard way also, I obtained several quotes for a re-roofing job after the widespread 2015 Bris. hailstorm. I negotiated with RACQ for a payout to manage the job personally: they said OK, just tell us when it's completed to your satisfaction...and sent the $$$ upfront to my account. Couldn't fault them.

Same with the smaller work,i have leaks and maintenance work needed on our sheds, bloody hard to find a good roofer.

About 5yrs ago,i found one,a guy who works for himself, but he is bloody busy,so hard to nail down.

    As i say to him,i pay same day,which i do,they look after me,i look after them.I trust him,just DD the money over,done.

He fixes things once, properly,no rubbish left around,to cause more rust, and is proactive about what is going to need doing in the future,i often meet him there to look at it all,or he sends pics.
