    Old petrol pumps

It is about 45 years since I filled up my FJ40 from this pump. which now is in the museum in Agnes Waters. A few years ago I came across a couple of similar ones at Middleton, half way between Winton and Boulia,
in a Land Rover this time.

I remember using one of those pumps at Moreton Telegraph station in 1980, funny part about it was the bloke we were travelling with had a new 4WD Hilux and had fitted a conopy and a large auxilary fuel tank in the tray. The filler was well up the side of the canopy which was about the same height as the top of the glass bowl on the fuel pump.
Looked at me blankly when I asked if he wanted to use my jerrycan before I filled it to fill his tank! Gravity was no help except to fill the jerry on the ground which we then had to lift higher than the canopy to pour the fuel into the aux tank.

    Great pics.

    A bit off topic.

Those mirrors, on the LR,did they flick around when they hit something, such as scrub?

If so we had them on the S1 but were taken off years ago as the mirror lens deteriorated, and now are lost, can't seem to get them any more.

We have different ones on,but would be good to go back to originals.

I think they are bike mirrors. I bought them at a swap meet. They are lighter and stick out a bit further, and don't vibrate like the
original L/R mirrors do on potholed dirt roads.
I guess if you hit something they tear out a piece of the mudguard, just like the proper ones do.

Are you referring to the Pommie type mirrors that located with a spring, pulling the base of the bracket into a tapered cubicle receiver?
If so, they might still be available, ex-UK. I'll make enquiries for you.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Those mirrors, if the original Series 1 type, usually break off, tearing a hole in the top of the mudguard! If the branch is not big enough for that, they just break the glass.

We had a very old hand pump. Pumped up to one of two glass gallon bowls on top. Dropped that to the car/tractor while pumping the other gallon up.

Cannot for the life of me find a picture of it. Very basic casts iron with layers of paint over many decades of use!

I'll drop in next time I am near that farm for a photo. Odd what we used as kids can be museum bits now (HMAS VAMPIRE)
