I remember using one of those pumps at Moreton Telegraph station in 1980, funny part about it was the bloke we were travelling with had a new 4WD Hilux and had fitted a conopy and a large auxilary fuel tank in the tray. The filler was well up the side of the canopy which was about the same height as the top of the glass bowl on the fuel pump.
Looked at me blankly when I asked if he wanted to use my jerrycan before I filled it to fill his tank! Gravity was no help except to fill the jerry on the ground which we then had to lift higher than the canopy to pour the fuel into the aux tank.
