How many Landrover are still on the roads

Hi guys, just been googling on Landrovers and came across this.
Given that an estimated 70% of all Series Land Rovers and Defenders ever made – 2,016,933 vehicles – are still on the road, that's a lot of waving.
Just an interesting fact or non fact for you and what do you think. Just filling in a wet and cold Vic day. Heather

Hi Heather, That explains all those severed arms one sees on the road side these days, one presumes.

My understanding is that the number is distorted by the fact that a significant number of Land Rovers were used in situations (like farms) where they were never registered. Consequently they were never recorded as written off.

It must be true because I think I read it on the AULRO forum.

My Toyota friends would say the majority of Land Rovers are still out on the road because they broke and never made it home.

I have often wondered how Land Rover makes such outlandish claims - with no apparent proof..?

Because nobody can prove the opposite.

there is/was a similar claim about volvo a decade or so ago. Who knows what's true. I would think that it is somewhat exaggerated I do like the idea though!

Well my four are still on the road. Major issues? Well the 200 tdi had that shaft stripping thing but that was it in 27 years of ownership (it is 31 years old). The series 111 2.25 diesel, reverse gear disappeared but easily fixed. That was about 20 years ago and it's been fine since It is now 41 years old. The 2008 Puma had an engine swap due to the PCJ issue and a starter motor replaced. Wiper motor and vacuum pump were replaced too. Only thing that kept me immobile was the starter motor issue. The 2011 Puma, well one of the doors will not central lock so it's a wire broken in the sleeve at the door I imagine. I will tackle that one of these days.
Would not class any as an unreliable vehicle. I have had new work vans with issues so all makes will throw up something.
