Hi guys, done a little research and here's where i'm up to...
I rang our local gas guy who's been doing it for many years and this is what he said so I'm quoting.... For your AU Falcon sedan it will cost $2500, you pay me the total and apply for the government rebate via a website which is <austindustry.gov.au> or go to centrelink or medicare....curious???

the scheme doesn't start until october 1 and your vehicle must be registered privately, this deal doesn't apply to biz reg cars. END

I've yet to check this website but i will as the AU is already booked in for mid october. my figures show with the usage of the AU i will save about $50 per week. so, given the conversion will supposedley cost me $500, i'm in front after ten weeks. (LPG here is 70cpl, unlead is 137cpl).

Now as to the Disco - he said it would be more than the AU, but he couldn't tell me how much as he had to get more details from a kit supplier...

I'll be back when i know more

    Cheers, GQ

It amazes me that as soon as you say 4x4 it is going to be dearer. How could it be dearer? Surely they are basically the same system fitted to different vehicles. I know the one in my XE Fairmont was exactly the same as the one in my Rangie. It should only be dearer if bigger/different tanks etc. An AU would require a fairly technical setup as it is as it is all electronic.

I don't want any tanks intruding into the cargo area.
I want more range and am not giving up til i've exhausted all ideas.
I do I have twin tanks underneath and 2 40 litre sill tanks for petrol.
    BLOODY WONDERFUL
Its in 89 Rangie with Flapper injection I get app 400kms on gas and more on petrol by about 100kms. The best thing was I did it myself cause u are allowed to...But u are not allowed to connect the pipes. I had aaa autogas in Perth check what I did and then hook it all up and I also got the $500 rebate at the time.
I rang them the other day and they told me they were taking bookings for Feb next year..That was before the 2000 rebate. They were already working 6 days a week for 12 hrs per day..so I think you are all going to have a long wait for the install plus the fact of no stock of bits due to the now mad rush.
The twin tanks underneath I have had since 1993 on my previous rangie 1982 carbie with the same setup. I have never had any problems apart from maintenece and I do use mine offroad and I have never had any damage to anything.
If the gallery is working I did load up some pics but that was on the other site last year, are they on this site as well?

But will it be a rule that its only one vehicle/person that can be eligible for the rebate? If you do your AU will they allow you the rebate to have the Disco done aswell? Matt

That's a good point Matt, thanks. The Au is reg in Kathy name whereas my Disco is in mine. Time to read all the fine print, eh?

LPG Assistance For Families -- 14 August 2006

    Media Release

    14 August 2006

From today, the Government will provide assistance to people who wish to convert their private motor vehicle to LPG.

Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources, Ian Macfarlane, said the LPG Vehicle Scheme will make a substantial positive impact on the family hip pocket in the face of rising energy costs.

“The Government recognises the impact of rising fuel prices on families and to address this issue, the LPG Vehicle Scheme will encourage the uptake and use of LPG as a cheaper alternative fuel," Mr Macfarlane said.

"Commencing from today, a tax-free grant of $2000 will be available to private purchasers of an approved and fitted LPG conversion of a motor vehicle.

"The scheme also includes a tax-free grant of $1000 to private purchasers of a new LPG dedicated or dual-fuel vehicle."

Mr Macfarlane said the scheme represents a significant step forward in addressing Australia's future energy usage.

"There are around three million cars in Australia that could be converted to LPG, representing a huge saving to motorists. In fact, in taking up this offer, the average motorist could start to recoup the cost of the conversion and begin to save money at the pump in just four months."

A great many unleaded petrol-fuelled vehicles can (subject to space limitations) be converted to LPG Autogas operation at a reasonable cost. Systems range in price from around $1500 to $3400 installed, depending on the type of vehicle, type of system and options.

"The scheme will benefit families in both metropolitan and rural areas given that there are more than 3200 outlets across Australia and nearly half of the filling stations are in regional or rural areas," Mr Macfarlane said.

The Scheme will operate from today through until 30 June 2014.

Eligible motor vehicle users can obtain further information on the scheme through the AusIndustry hotline on 13 28 46, or view more information here, or from Centrelink and Medicare shopfronts.
