Good news for the electric car brigade here in the UK as Labour have said if elected they will reintroduce the 2030 date for all electric. This was previously changed to 2035 so that it fell into line with most other countries. E interesting to see how long this promise last once in government. Was changed as moving 5 years before everyone else did not make economic sense for the eco or the manufacturers. It was not pop with a certain segment of the population

Man you're government is even more luny than ours. So they wish to mandate something that is completely impossible and ridiculous ..... Sure, why not. They have just guaranteed themselves an election loss I imagine. If you want a big backlash from the population, just try to force them to do something they have no intention of doing

The recycling of these is a pipe dream if you dig a bit. I think we'll have to bury them for safey so they don't torch themselves off and burn everything around them.
Not only that, the same goes for the generation of that "green" solution. The only readily recyclable parts of solar panels are the glas top panes and the aluminium frames. The doped silicon wafers, not so much... People are working on a process to recycle the blades of wind turbines but I have not seen much progress there yet either.

However, we are very closely treading on getting this thread merged with the EV banter thread that already exists in the alternate energies corner of this site

I see a number of things wrong with an EV freelander, not in the least that it is a chinese product and we should really stop sponsoring the ccp! But, you know, if britain gets its (unrealistic) way to be all electric before 2030 then you will need a whole lot of cheap crappy EV's to fill all those needs? I reckon that all other arguments against the car are therefor kinda irrelevant I guess...

    Apparently not:

Even loyal Conservative voices are predicting a Tory wipeout, but with Nigel Farage on the scene it won'''t be smooth sailing for Labour - ABC News

"On current indications, a political tsunami is coming towards the UK and it will be devastating for the conservative side of politics here.
........ Analysing its new opinion poll, The Daily Telegraph reported that the latest polling suggested that three quarters of the current British cabinet are set to lose their seats, including the prime minister and his chancellor.
This would leave the Conservatives with 53 seats in the House of Commons, compared with Labour's 516 seats, and remove several of the next generation of possible Tory leaders. These numbers would give Labour double the majority won by Tony Blair in 1997 in what was seen as the dawn of the era of New Labour. [emphasis added: BTW, the Tories currently have 365 seats, so they're predicted to lose between 200 and 300 of those seats.]

Meanwhile, the front page of another conservative bastion, The Times, declared the Tories "set to suffer worst poll defeat for 100 years".

Actually, it'd be more like their worst loss since 1834, so 190 years.

The other mob is even dafter. The third party over there would get my vote, but they won't win. The UK needs a few more years of bad medicine before they'll wake up.

They are hitting this EV thing wrong IMO. they should be city run-abouts. small batteries, limited power, limited range. even a "swap" deal like the electric bikes you see around. this is about the only EV I would consider. Nothing at all to do with the "green" luny crap they claim its made from .... but rather, its sensible. its a people mover, load mover, kind of a ute .... kind of a panel van .... its a little jack of all trades

Indeed. Perfect for the 15 Minute Cities they want us to infest. They won't be joining us, of course.

It's... kinda ugly... My word, this could kick the fiat multipla of it's throne!

Other than that, yes that's the EV market imho. The city runabout, the soccor moms donk. We could've done that decades ago but hey
