Actually looks like a good trip, except you wound up back in Qld....
Just kidding, I think Qld is my destination at some point, although not as I had hoped.

I did the Simpson (Madigan line) in May with one other vehicle. I have only done the Simpson this one time.
Madigan line - we didn’t see another vehicle 5 days roughly)
French Line / QAA - 15 vehicles in one day.
People did say that the Madigan Line is becoming more popular - people trying to avoid the masses.
Having said that - looking at the visitor books, even on the Madigan line people came every 2-3 days.
If you stick to the French Line / QAA - I would travel it solo without concern in a well prepared vehicle.

North always to the top............................which is why I get annoyed with a lot of architectural plans.
Back on topic. On my trip I was having a coldie with a family Dad, who said he kept his kiddies occupied by instructing them to count the number of sandhills they encountered.

Back off topic, I prefer a digital map to display the direction of travel to the top, but real (paper) maps should always have north to the top.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
My last trip was two years ago when I went up the Hay River track. I got sick of ducking back and forth all the time across the creek bed.
Lake Caroline was an interesting place to visit though.
