V8 Series 1 bringing to Australia

G'Day guys I am an Aussie living in Canada for the past 23 years, some of you may follow my Youtube channel TMPNET TMPNET - YouTube and I have series 1 V8 4.6 Coiler hat I have been building for years here in Canada but my situation has changed and I will be moving back to Australia in NSW.
What is the reality of getting a V8 88" series 1 coiler registered and insured in NSW?
I will have too import it as parts and re assemble which is fine as I am at that point in the project anyway.
I am just out of touch as to strictness of modified vehicles in Aust and realize it will involve an engineer which is fine, the chassis is a designa chassis from the uK so professionally built
    Thanks for you input

Be careful sneaking it in as parts. Even if you don't get busted at the time, you'll get sprung at the rego office. Then you'll have to export it and reimport it, with the correct paperwork. The Feds will not retrospectively issue the necessary pieces of paper. Ask me how I know.
Doubtful you can rego it as a LHD, but it is a relatively easy conversion.

If you have not already done so, spend a few hours going through the following.

Importing a road vehicle into Australia | Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts

And although it says "Rover" it doesn't say Land Rover!

Hmm, what makes you think it is LHD?

The parts thing is a US requirement - you should have no real issues importing it into Aust as a whole vehicle however getting it registered may be a different issue - I would bring any previous registration documents you have of the vehicle being registered in Canada in its current configuration - in NSW a good authorised would be able to advise and walk you through the roadworthy process and sign off on mods.

Why not buy a series 1 here and modify with the help of an engineer. Probably cheaper than what you have to bring out and get on the road.

I would suspect that you may come unstuck with your chassis. In OZ, the vehicle identification stays with the chassis number. If you have a "new" chassis, it will be being registered as a new vehicle, and hence may have to comply with all current design rules.

Some of you need to look at the OP's website that he has provided. What he has is not a normal vehicle import, but a special case which MAY make it eligible under the following rules:

    checklist-for-a-concessional-rav-entry-approval-application-for-a-personal-effects-vehicle-april2024.pdf (infrastructure.gov.au)

I went through a similar exercise just last year after living overseas for 30 years. My old Discovery 1 qualified under the 25 years old section, but because of several mods, amongst them LPG, it proved to be so involved and open to interpretation, that I ended up leaving it there. What the OP is asking about is an entirely different category of import, more so as he is an Australian citizen.

What also needs to be made clear is that without prior approval, he will not even be able to load it on to a ship. The last thing to be concerned about is such things as chassis numbers, as that will also be a part of the application process, which in turn again depends on which type of entry permit is approved, if any!
