Prevention is better than cure. If we keep reading this thread., we'll laugh our tits off.

    Or, in my case, tit...

But, yes, prevention is why I started this thread. Apparently one in one thousand blokes get this. Which means that on an average there are three others on this forum who could have it, and like me, not know it. In my case it's possibly/likely not too late, but it was a near thing if the surgeons/oncologists are to be believed.

Radiotherapy sucks. Don't let anyone tell you different. Oh, it seems benign enough, you don't feel or hear anything, and it's over in a few minutes. But then the fatigue hits, and the skin starts to burn... Still, seven down, eighteen to go, and then it gets better.

Not complaining. It's WAY better than the alternative, and other folk go through far, far worse. I've seen it. Simply an update.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you coping with the burns? When dad had his for his lung tumour his back looked not too far off a BBQ chicken. I'd have thought the focus on yours would have been shallower, so closer to the surface and more burnie burnie on the skin.

We used a crapload of Aloe Vera alternated with Vitamin E cream, but it wasn't pretty.

If you do mind me asking, then feel free to tell me where to go or ignore the question. I have a feeling however that like me you're all about the awareness.

I got told at the hospital to use Moo Goo.

never felt the burns, I put it on as soon as I got home, before I fell asleep

I now use moogoo regularly just about all over to look after my skin

Don’t mind at all. This thread is about talking about it. Awareness, as you put it.

I’m only just starting to notice the burning, but my skin is reddening. They tell me that it will get worse. They stress the need for regular and thorough moisturising with neutral cream like QV. No soap of any kind, no deodorant, no taking vitamin C (☹️). C is a no no while taking the drugs as well, so that’s like forever.
What I’m noticing most is the fatigue, coupled with some dizziness and cognitive issues, although an observer probably wouldn’t notice any change in that last bit. But I have problems connecting things that were second nature before. They tell me that is probably temporary.
It’s hard to know what is caused by what. I got to 71 ( biopsies were done on my birthday) without drugs, and now I’m rattling and also have a monthly implant.

I remind myself constantly that it could be far worse, and is for so many others.

Mum had a reaction to that stuff, but my Jan swore by it. Right now I’m working my way through the showbag of free samples that they gave me. I want to use castor oil but will wait until it’s done.

Mmm the aftershave for men. 2 stroke motorcycle riders loved it. My wife, not so much.

I reckon a mans soap that's a mix of castor oil and bacon fat would be a winner. My wife is trying to convince me it's not, but I reckon she's wrong. I'm not man enough to tell her though.

Is that high dose methotrexate ? I know there's several Chemo drugs that can be negatively impacted by 'C'.

Probably protect you from various airborne viral infections... People wouldn't get close enough to infect you..

Taking Letrozole daily. I have monthly Zoladex. Both of these are hormone blocking, and more usually prescribed for women. But my cancer is a hormone driven one.
When the radiotherapy is over then I will be going onto what I call chemo lite, Abemaciclib*, twice daily, once again for probably ten years. Because this stuff, whichever one, screws with my bone density I will have to have Zoledronic acid, whatever that is, as an, well she said infusion, but I think it's injected.

    * who comes up with these names?
