It's a Mitsubishi, they all do it, swmbo magna has done it since new, it's the only car I know of with a biodegradable wiring loom, it's been breaking down since the car was 4 years old.

This is why they are so cheap

but the thing is it just keeps on going

Well my Fenders been in the shop now for 10 days with bodywork and drivetrain issues, no courtesy car even though they are 200kms from home, and the missus and I have to both take a day off to pick it up.It might be a better vehicle then the Paj, but warranty is the same no matter what the make, A BIG PITA!

My experience is that warranty work - no matter what the manufacturer / dealer - is done begrudgingly and with as little cost to the manufacturer as possible

Makes my disco that is supposed to be so unreliable look like a gem. Just goes to show it doesnt matter what you buy they all have thier fair share of problems. Matt

You got FOUR years out of a Magna before it filled its nappy? !!!!!! Go to the car auctions. You can get a good 1-2 owner Commodore or Falcon 8-9 years old, probably <100,000k's for $4-5000, Commodores slightly the dearer. Same in Magnas $1000. Tell you something?

Yes,it does the magna is now 11 years old and gets from a to b regardless of whatever treatment it gets. It's more comfortable than the Ford or Holden has done close to 300000km. It never filled the nappy as such, more little skidmarks that can be fixed with a roll of wire and a crimping tool.

I see no real problems with it

Besides try and get a V6 manual ford or holden that hasn't been thrashed at the auctions.

You can get both good and bad at auction. It is up to you. How good is your judgement?

The trade works this way. A new car dealership takes a trade-in. If it is 4-5 years old or less and a generally tidy car of saleable make and model, they will send it to their used car dvn. for preparation and sale. Some only keep trade-ins of the make(s) they sell.

Few older vehicles are kept in stock by a new car dealership. They may sometimes (rarely) have another used yard for older cheaper cars, or a wholesale connection with an independent yard, whose names & locations do not connect to the new car dealership. However, these vehicles are most commonly sent to auction, this being economically preferable. No floor plan charges, no preparation costs, no commission to salesmen.

Now, at auction, you are buying "as is, where is". Commonly unregistered and without a Safety Certificate, so you should get a substantial price advantage over a well presented, registered and warranted car from a licenced dealer. If you are confident in your judgement and handy on the tools, this is the way to buy.

Back to Magnas, whilst you may have had a good run from yours, they are totally unpopular with the used trade. Sometimes not attracting a bid.

Whatever we may think of used car dealers and salesman, the trade is pretty astute and quick to sniff out a dog make or a dud model. I once was at a sales meeting in my then role as a Zone Sales Manager for the manufacturer, where the dealer principal told his staff that the next person who traded in a "xxxxxxxx" was in serious danger of losing their job. "Send em up the road to the opposition, and let them handle the s--t" was his closing comment.
