Bren gun carrier track works a treat. yes its weighty but it does lots of things (for me anyway)
    1. sand ladders
    2. deadman anchor (when used with a steel bar)
    3. temporary weld bench
    4. temporary fire grate
    5. rope weights (for freestanding tarps)
    6. drag weights (for rewinding winches)
    7. foot scrapes

Excellent Idea, I'll nip out to kmart and get myself a couple, will they be in the conflict accessories or automatic weapons isle

The grate idea sounds good though, if it digs under that would give it more grip and stop it shooting out from under the wheel, I've seen that happen.
I'm glad I was at the side of the vehicle and not behind it.

one tip I saw with sand boards was to tie a length of thin rope to the board, run it out to the left or right of the vehicle and then tie it to the rear some where. This means you can keep going when you have traction untill you hit a harder surface and don't have to run back for your boards.
I've seen it done once and it worked well.

Do you know how hard it is to get good bren gun carrier tracks? I know some blokes that would kill to have at least a few extras, let alone enough to replace one of their stuffed tracks!

I have one of these . They are great and they fold up small. So you can store them in the back of your truck with no worries. I( carried mine around aus with me). Needed it just north of Perth as the sand was getting deep and we got stuck on a hill. So used it twice to climb over the top of two hills. Bloody glad i had it and it dug in and winch the car and trailer over the hill no worries.

A Land Rover that floats? Got a problem with the high tide? Only yoking...

If you really need a sand anchor, you (should) already have one on board DRUT.
The spare tyre, in a hole deep enough, will do the job.

And as reads said, any anchor needs to be well dug in or they'll pop out.

But the ramps are a top piece of kit, use them to get you some traction, before you need to use them as an anchor.

That was very funny downundersteve, they're two aisles from the bofors and howitzer shells row........right and up from the Abrams tanks accessories division..... (or Hummer tie rods)

While mine (maybe 10-11 feet in total) is not in magnificent nick its not too bad

If you know anyone who wants it who is close to me, or is on one of my runs somewhere (next one is ipswitch via sydney at this stage) Im happy to swap it on the following grounds...

    1. I get link for link so I have the same amount its just got to be linked so I can still use it for what I use it for.

    2. If its any good to them I get a little burn in a bren or ferret, its been ages...

the guy I got this stuff from gave it to me after I rebored some of his links and put bigger pins in to take out the slop.. While I was working at it I looked at making a 5 piece mould for casting new links... We made 2 pieces just to prove it could be done then gave it up as too much work but the 2 link we made, after boring and roughing actually worked pretty well... but 14 hours for 2 link is kinda rediculous.
