FRED,= acronym for computer- f---ing ridiculous electronic device. Don't know what swaddies call a fred. Glass can be cut in a lathe. We used to make drinking glasses out of bottles by gripping gently in the three jaw chuck and using a tungsten carbide tool to score a groove around the bottle at the desired level of contents. Remove from chuck and heat with appropriate torch, tap gently and top breaks, off, remove rough edges with the linisher. Abracadabra, beer or other desirable fluid container for drinking out of purposes.

great, yet another use for my lathe....

well I suppose glass bits ought to be easier to clean out of a metal working lathe than sawdust.

in the scentific industry.... we have a great 20ltr open neck rbf for a fish tank in my office... the brand - Schott Duran.....

That is quite a large RBF Mick. We use mainly schott stuff. Some simax, and corning stuff too sometimes.

I've been meaning to make up some of these for years. I never get around to it.
I plan to melt down the neck of the bottle and shape into a handle, then attach to the side of the bottom section. Would be great to do this with long neck bottles. Would be roughly a pint in volume I reckon.

And a nice gimmick to, for presents etc.
