And those of us who went to gas years ago? Most of what is publicised, is only a knee jerk reaction, say the words they want to hear, then back to dinner with the corporate campaign funders again. Oops my SOOOPer Cynic underpants are showing again.

    Shorty.

Problem is most of it is true. John Howard is in a much better position to control fuel than he says he is yet he refuses to do anything about it.

What I would like to know is if this whole petrol pricing thing is about competition and free market forces etc etc, are we supposed to believe that because all the companies charge the same, that their costs are exactly the same down to the last fraction of a cent. I find it unlikely.
While I am on the subject, why do the fuel outlets retain the ability to adjust their prices by such miniscule amounts. They display prices that allow for a 0.1 cent change. Without getting out the calculator, I think that is about .08% on a price of $1.25. Isn't it time to display prices in whole cents. Anyway I can't ever remember seeing fuel outlets make such a small change as .1 cents or even 1 cent. They don't need that degree of precision, so why make the price signs bigger and more confusing than they need to be?

Has absolutely nothing to do with free market forces.

We're apparently tied to a bench price decided in Singapore, which is about the size of a peanut - great to know that a tiny non oil producing Asian dictatorship runs the fuel price regs in Australia. (and has control of some other significant infrastructure in this land, like our communications satellites).

In a true free market, we should be paying about 25 cents a litre for petrol.

And why is premium (and diesel) sooooooo much more expensive than regular? think about that one.....

Start your own oil/petrol company and sell its for much less, and you'll mysteriously disappear....

consumables like fuel, fags and booze are easily taxable and we're all the patsies taking it without questioning.

how the hell can Caltex and BP justify a 15c/litre increase in unleaded fuel overnight? why is nobody boycotting them? in america they would be shootings, in france the country would come to a halt.. and in the UK ... well they would boycott them at least once...
If you live in QLD, ALL FUEL comes from either BP and caltex, so whoever you buy from you will be buying their fuel.

If you live inn WA, ALL fuel comes from the BP/Amoko (Kwinana) refinery.

    Choice is a fallacy.

Farmers out here are paying 2 cents a litre more for a bulk delivery of diesel than the normal pump price

I would like to see more headers, tractors etc at the servo filling up.....

That may be the case, but I am pretty sure the week in week out price fluctuations aren't tax related...
