Eventually the next Govt spent millions of $ modifying them, and trying to sort the issues.
    Weren't they built in India?

Spain'''s rail head resigns over bungled train orders resulting in trains too wide for tunnels - ABC News

The bloke who issued that order number will have a red face for a while.

Or a very black one once the Chairman of the board arranges mates to drag him through the tunnel at the end of a rope.

Have they not heard of Tunnel/Loading Gauges?

Both Spain's central government and Renfe have repeatedly said the error was spotted early on and no money has been wasted.

    Naive or wot?

The trains referred to are the driverless trains out to Richmond , Kellyville etc.
They are made by Canadian company Bombadier in India and are identical to the Delhi mass transit trains.
AFAIK they have not given much trouble.
Although I can tell you that it is a cultural experience in not queuing in transit hubs like Rajiv Chown. My wife was propelled half way along a carriage corridor by the race to board.
