It might have been a good'un once but it's failing badly of late!

When I went to River Island over Easter, I had to keep running the Rangie to recharge my fridge battery. One day I'll get a solar panel.

When I got home I thought that maybe the portable generator I bought some years ago but had never used could be a stop-gap. I hadn't taken it as I didn't think it would be very welcome.

So I dragged it out and fuelled it up. It started quite easily and is very quiet. I ran it for a while charging a battery, shut it down, turned off the fuel tap, and put it back into the garage.

Later that arvo I went out to the garage to be greeted with the smell of petrol. Yep, the "new" generator has a leaking fuel tank. The importer has since gone out of business, besides the generator would be at least 7 years old.

A while back I mentioned my Rossi hiking boots having had the soles come adrift: These boots are made for working!

Whilst at River Island, I thought I'd hike to The Cascades. I got about 100 metres and, guess what, the soles had come adrift again. The foam insert between the boot and the threaded sole had disintegrated. I contacted Rossi but this time they want about $80 to fix them. I've hardly worn them since the last repair. I guess they'll be going into the rubbish bin.

Last month I saw a coil spring conversion kit for a good price on eBay. They were at Esk in Qld and a few AULRO members offered to collect them for me.

I didn't want to put anyone to too much trouble so I had them posted down at a cost of $75 postage. The parcel wasn't insured. What could go wrong?

Greg Mac from this and the REMLR forum is the postmaster in Esk and he advised they left Esk on the truck at 5pm on 1st May.

They haven't arrived.

It appears they were on the Australia Post truck that caught fire in Grafton on 2nd May with everything on board destroyed.

I doubt I'll see much recompense from AP.

However, this week has been a bit better. Last year I bought a cordless stab mixer. This week it failed by having the mixer/blender section fall out.

It is not repairable. Fortunately, it has a 3 year warranty. I rang the company, they have no replacements so they will do a refund. We have received the pre-addressed Australia Post label to attach to the package so we don't have to pay postage.

Don't send it back Ron, do you really want to cause another truck fire ?

Oh, dear. I bought a pair of Brembo front discs from Brissie three weeks ago (it's all wayneg's fault, he saw them for sale cheaply) but it seems the courier has lost them.

As they weren't insured, I wonder who bears the cost, the vendor or me?

I guess it depends how nice the vendor is.... I've had couriers lose things a few times, but after I harass them on the phone they order a "search of the warehouse" or something and it turns up.

A few years ago a courier lost SWMBO's Xmas present. I looked at their website as I wasn't having any luck via phone and they had the whole, "this is our caring CEO and you can contact him *here*" section. So I emailed him. It wasn't a very nice email, then 10 mins later I got a phone call....from the CEO! He apologised and said he was looking into it. I politely thanked him. I then got a call from a warehouse manager saying he was owning the issue. Didn't hear anything again but the package arrived on our door step well after business hours on the last business day before Xmas.

Before I retired I operated a wholesale plant nursery. Each Spring I would buy between 6-8 thousand dollars worth of plants from my Brother in law who was a propagator. The plants were shipped in wool bales so you know the size of the shipment. 3 bales went missing off the courier's truck. They were found on the Friday afternoon before the October long weekend sitting in the holding depot at Tamworth. ( they were shipped from NSW south coast to Sydney). NO ,we couldn't have them brought back before reloading on the following Tuesday. Up to 5 days sitting in the full sun before they were reloaded and brought to us. Luckily the plants had not fully dried out so loss was minimal.

Last Monday we picked up "our" new guide dog, Hannah (mentioned in my thread about Another Addition to the Family).

Today, we returned her to Guide Dogs - she's faulty.

Well, maybe not faulty but there's something wrong so we had to leave her for X-rays, etc. It seems she had meningitis as a pup and we hope that isn't the cause of her problems.

I don't know the courier's name nor the Con Note no. to chase it myself. I haven't heard back from the vendor after I asked them to check with the courier.
