I haven't payed much attention to the ad, because I have little/no interest in freeloaders and other soft roaders. I thought they were trying to be trendy, not trying to save money on the ad. Was probably made by the same people who did the latest mazda (zoom zoom) ad in japanese and english???
Speaking of ads, anyone seen the Touareg ad - towing the 747. Notice the small print:
"Overseas model shown" Modified axle and 4.5t!!!!ballast fitted! Must have had solid steel bars instead of suspension and solid rubber tyres to support all that weight.
I think we need to repeat the attempt with a (stock) defender. They would probably need to bring back the salisbury axle though.
I agree with Frenchie and I wait to be prooven wrong....
Touchy bunch arnt you.
Public forums are for public opinions, your alowed to have yours as well as Im alowed to have mine.
I dont care how well appointed they are or how good they are to drive, it would be near completely usless to me other than to replace my wifes carolla but I wouldnt waste the money as the carolla is reliable and doesnt need to proove otherwise.
I care not for much electronics off road, yes they are impressive while they work but when they dont work your stuck without any chance of getting out if you are really off road.
I cant wait for the first recall and I will revamp this thread.

McRover darling you keep your cars. This conversation is obviously not about you.
Anyhow. I own an original Freelander, and enjoy it, although yes, it isnt without its reliability issues. BUT it has done me better than the camry i had before it, AND i flog the freelander.
I have friends that are looking at new 4wds, and the freelander2 fits the 'beach use and rare offroad' perfectly. All the while with utmost comfort. A friend has already put a deposit down. Assuming its built like the LR3 (jusging by body and interior), it will be a good quality car worthy of being the mini RRS that it appears.
Time is all that can tell how reliable it will be.
As for the ads, i like them. It adds a little mystery to the label, it is reminiscent of certain bond films. All while still letting people know that there is this 'secret' 4wd out there only an agent could get his hands on. Budget for the ad perhaps was a little low though.... lol
Cheers!!

Yesterday I had my first opportunity to have a look under an older Freelander whilst it was on the hoist.
I was quite impressed with how everything is tucked up out of the way. It looks a lot better underneath than some equivalent Japanese cars.
Have you had a look at the X-Trail muffler or the Honda CRV or Mazda Trbute/Ford Escape rear suspension arms?
It would be dead easy to make a rear diff guard for the Freo - I don't know if it needs one.
