Oh well, you need a reminder every now and then that your not as smart as you think
Trust me, I've had a few reminders![]()
I was servicing the 110. Came the time to replace the oil - put the hose into the top of the engine and started pumping. Thirty pumps, should be about showing on the dipstick - checked it. No, another ten pumps - checked again. That's funny! Eyes lighted on the workbench - sitting there, nice and clean and with its washer next to it - yes, you guessed! The sump plug!
The only plus is that the waste oil collector was still under it and big enough (it is a 20l drum with the top cut out - just goes in under the front radius arms with the front axle on stands to lift the front wheels just off the ground)
Wasted 4l + of oil.

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
Your definitely not alone there
At least you had enough to fill it up again. Last time I did something like that I didn't have enough to refill and the new oil went all over the drive.
I can at least say I "haven't done that...yet". However, at least you managed to catch the oilLast change on my Tdi, got everything ready, undid sump plug over oil pan. Really proud of my self, didn't spill a drop on me or anything else. Went back to bench to get oil, filter, sump washer etc... turned around to see large puddle of black oil forming under the Defender
- The oil pan had a split/crack in it and was only holding about a litre of oil in the bottom - WHAT A MESS

As far as messes go the Isuzu has some interesting points - the cartridge filter points up! It has a drain plug though - which you remove by feel (and usually drop into your waste oil container) - and watch the oil drain straight onto the front universal on the prop shaft, with sufficient drop so it spashes when it hits - and the remaining oil on the U-joint is spread around nicely as you drive off after the service.
