most of the newer 4WD's aint real 4wheelers anyway
Saw one at the pub the other night, Mrs Mc's first reaction was Yuck.

I have seen 2 more with the same rims in our area, they could be a factory option.

Thanks for the edit Ray but I would have loved to know what you said

The assumptions are flying around here so fast it's hard to keep up ....

    1. Just because you see a 4WD with 20" rims, doesn't mean that it's illegal - it _might_ be, but it is far, far more likely that a 2" raised, 34, 35, 36" tyre-wearing "real" 4WD is illegal.

    2. Just because you see a 4WD with 20" rims doesn't mean that it doesn't go off-road (or tow) - have you considered that they might have a second set of rims somewhere?

Since when did we become the Fashion Police anyway?

    Cheers,

    Gordon

We all know that 34, 35 and 36" rubber is illegal, if you bothered to read it, it is based on several factors based around 1 prado that you obviously havnt seen that is lowered as well as the 20" rims.

By the way, undersizing your rolling diameter is also against RWC laws in vic so going from 28" rubber to 20" rims with 2" of rubber gives you 24" dia, Unroadworthy.

It is also against ADR's to fit wheels and tyres that are not rated to the maximum load rating of the vehical unless it is a factory option, then they can tag the vehical that it's maximum load rating is XXX when fitted with XXXX rims.

    Got the idea

Have been reading this thread with interest, firstly, yep agree on the whole thing of 4bies with bling bling, but same goes for little Hyundais with big chrome exhausts , ultimately.....who cares ( well obviously some). Now some of you, if ya didnt know me, pulled up next to me when my car looks like this:

    Some of you may say:

i don't like it either - i think it just says 'look at me, i'm a belter with too much money (credit)'
    or
They cant be called petrol heads, all they are thinking about is what is in their pants and the fact that they think that is what gets the opposite sex to notice them.
    or this pearler

The reason I dont respect Black top only Bling bling 4wd owners is They are so wrapped up in self image. At the lights OOh look at me if they can see through the black tint.. Pimped 4wd's are just big shiny dicks who have their nuts inside. If the cap fits
So how would you know that the same car also ends up like this:

    or this:

Same person same car. From those latter pictures I also get, are you mad, what are you taking that off road for, thats a lot of $$$ if something happens etc etc. Damn if I do, damned if I dont , but again....Who CARES. Out all of all new and used 4WD's there is most likely a very large % that dont use them for their intended purpose, so what, whoopdy doo.

Sure, I get a little kick when I see shiny new 4bies drive by my dirty, mud covered D3, Im proud of what it can do and the knowledge of the fun I have with my mates whilst getting into the rough stuff. That is what is important, that is what is worth caring about and most importantly that most seem to have missed, is that in a cuppla years these blinged blinged, never taken off road machines will be on the second hand market for the likes of us to snap up and give them a taste of their true heritage, most likely like many of the vehicles that many of you now own

    Regards

They cant be called petrol heads, all they are thinking about is what is in their pants and the fact that they think that is what gets the opposite sex to notice them.

If they were petrol heads A. they wouldnt be driving a Plado or 80/100 series they would be driving something like a 5ltr or Gen 3 commode or similar falcon or jap equivilent.
Do you do editing for ACA or the like as I have not had a go at people who buy cars with OEM wheels on them and have pointed out my reasoning behind that in my last post.

Good for you for taking you D3 off road, I have seen for myself how capable they are and I was highly impressed so please if your going to use part of my posts to make a point, make it an honest point please.

No editing for ACA from here, it is the assumption made, like many of the others in the thread, so therefore an honest point. They may actually do it because they like to, or they think it looks cool etc. Also to you it maybe OEM to somebody else bling with the same mind set and assumption, if that makes sense,

    OEM=original equipment manufacturer.

Means the same to me as it does to everyone else.

If it is OEM, they have to tag the car to what it is load rated with as I pointed out before and only on that tag can they say with these wheels you can carry this load and with those you can carry that load.

Also an assumption is not an honest point it is an assumption and thats all it is.

Read my posts and try to understand them before you miss quote me please Stevo.
