No-one has the right to take a human life.

    Not murderers,
    not rapists,
    not parking inspectors

    and certainly not the government.

Sure, if my wife was given a parking ticket, raped and murdered and I was left alone with the person who did it, I would WANT to kill them, but I would never feel that I had the RIGHT to kill them.

In any case, the poll as it currently stands (42% vs 46% for absolutely no vs yes) is clear evidence why the current status quo (ie. no death penalty) will not ever change. Society just can't agree on this one.

I'd accept the death penalty for drug dealers.

Or could it be that they just don't care.....what's going to happen to them even if they do get caught.

Your Honour to 75 year old victim: At your age you should know better - stop antagonising young men in the street.

I really must step of my soap-box on this one.... but I'm just p*ssed at do-gooders taking the law-enforcement rights away from our police and the courts not backing the men and women who endeavor to uphold the law. Catch'em today, catch'em again tomorrow and next week....

lm sorry but l like the idea of somebody having to spend every day of the remainder of their lives in a boring routine locked in a small cell with no privileges like tv, radio, cd's.

They ruined people's lives not only the victim but their families and knowing they are locked away and never getting out or enjoying life is comforting thought.

And life should mean life death in prison never to be released

    System should be changed

Economic crimes should have economic consequences so drug dealers lose gains from crime and spend rest of life in jail

Graffita writers should be cleaning off graffitta on basis of hourly costs of removing graffitta $10,000 damage would be worked off at $15 hour and being flogged or caned on basis of 1 stroke per $100 damage

Drink Drivers/unlicensed drivers should have cars crushed whether they are owners of cars or not

Hoons and Road Ragers should have cars impounded first offence for 3 months then crushed for second offences

Surely you jest, with the civil libertarians fighting constantly fighting for the rights of criminals and conveniently forgetting the victims, life in a jail cell is getting better and better. Plus they get the chance to further their education, plus surgery, dentistry, etc.

In any case, the way the judicial system runs at the moment, any death penalty would surely be more likely applied to white collar criminals. Look at sentencing for that sort of crime.

The almighty dollar speaks far louder to governments than the beaten and raped 75 year old will ever be able to unfortunately.

I wasn't referring to current prison system of entertaining bored criminals.

I did say l liked teh idea of small cell and nothing to entertain or distract them for the rest of their lives

Federal and State Governments are too soft to do anything about crime

Positive DNA only places your DNA (not necessarily you) at the scene. Its only another piece of evidence.

It isn't proof 'beyond reasonable doubt' that you committed the crime - that's still left to a prosecution/jury, with all its problems.

Sorry, I misunderstood. But I agree, If that's the way it was, it would be great.
