We ( I work in the LPG Industry) are experiencing supply issues and the link mentions we import 300,000 tonnes, thats going to be a fair bit more this year.
Some urban myths
We sell to the Japs/Chinese for 4, 10, 12 cents a litre. ( It was 20cents 10 years ago).
Its a waste product. :Rolling: (It is a byproduct of petrol refining)
One theory not discussed is the number of vehicles converted under the $2,000 scheme. There has been tens of thousands of vehicles converted and this has put a great demand on the product. I reckon the refineries simply are having a money grab- why?? - because they can, the industry was deregulated a few years after I got into it- in 1991.
They ( the refiners) argue they can load it onto a ship or local semi trailers for much the same price- its cheaper to load 1 ship as against, what 1,000 semi"s?
If we don't want it, it goes overseas and they still make the same profit:mad:

IT would just about negate any cost saving of conversion now wouldn't it? thinking that the holden commodore uses 15 litres on gas as opposed to 10 litres on petrol and then 2ish grand outlay. You wouldn't be able to recoup it. These gas prices seem set to stay too. Pleased I didn't go lpg now and probbaly won't be going diesel gas like I was planning on.

I am a sarcastic bastard and prepared to bet that as soon as the gas is selling at 90% of the cost of the petrol the government will stop the $ 2000 grant.
Result: few installers and manufacturers made a few millions and the workers finished with a white elephant.
Tax payers money for the rich again :mad:
The way I stop myself getting depressed at the increased fuel costs is that each time there is a rise in petrol price my LPG conversion pays for itself that little bit quicker.
Okay, the LPG goes up in price too but only by about half as much per litre as petrol. When I first got my LPG installed I was saving around 60c per litre. Now it is nearer 75c per litre :)
Hi guys, heres my tuppence worth on the matter, i reckon that an lpg conversion should be treated as a capital expense. who cares how long it takes to pay for itself the benefit comes on a weekly basis when it costs you less cash to do more klms in your favourite machine. we dont bother working out how many recoverys it will take to pay for a winch or how many beers we need to consume to pay for our engel (though i am in the proccess of doing the practical part of this equation :D ). we just pay for something that we see a perceived benefit in, why do we see lpg as anything else?
I put reggie on gas about six months ago and love it, its smoother on gas for some reason, the only negative is probably the same for most in that we wish we could carry more gas on board :(.
While ever LPG stays at less than half the price of ulp il be happy to pump it into my truck :D:D:D
The LPG savings are still there, although it is more fun to complain ;). I converted my non-LR car about a year ago and it's paid off now thanks to the $2000 grant.
LPG is about half the price of petrol (give or take 10c) and the extra usage is about 20% (in my car at least). So the savings are still there...
However the lack of power on LPG is noticable... might have to get it chipped ;).
I wouldn't dare run the Rangie on anything but LPG (i'd have to sell the house!!!).
it's a simple process where, they start it cheap so as to entice you all everyone into having lpg tanks fitted ( with the usual sh** excuse that it's better for the environment), and before you know it it'll be almost the same price as petrol/diesel :angel: :wasntme:
