I have to be honest and with the essence agree to an extent. Obviously that with it being in a US, Uk and Oz version, the sentiment is widespread. Blah blah about centuries ago, it is what has happened since then that is important ie where our or any culture is today. Am I to apologise for my forefathers, one of my ancestors was one of the greatest conquerors in English royalty.

Cutting through it all, I firmly believe that this is our culture, a culture born of many nationalities but predominately Christian and from European backgrounds. It is the culture of today that needs to be protected. Ask an English person what it is like over there at the moment. It is not so much people coming to live here, the government is as much to blame, and not just for issues with Xmas and potentially offending other religions, it is the whole gamut of politically correct issues that have crept in. To me that is the major problem. Using Xmas as an example, Santa can't say Ho ho ho, my child at the Kindy party can't sit on Santa's lap...WTF

Many people have a view, but won't express it, I must admit that I can't warm to some cultures and others I can. Just as it would be the reverse, there are no doubt some cultures that would warm to us and others not so. I think some immerse themselves more easily into our lifestyle than others. As mentioned before I feel the government plays a large hand in many of these issues but clearly and distinctly pointing out the differences and making issue of it.

For me at the end of the day, don't care where you come from, if you are a decent person so be it. I also feel that alot of these issues, moreso of late tend to stem from a particular religion and culture...rightly or wrongly,

    Regards

    G'day Folks

In reply to djhampson, I am not racist, I have worked with migrant workers both male and female in the automotive manufacturing industry in the 60's 70's and early 80's and had /have good friends from that time, including working with the first of the Vietnamese Boat People,(any automotive manufacturing Co. with over 100 staff had to take on 4 Vietnamese BP's) and had no problems, let me quote to you an incident that happened to me and my family.

"Sydney - Mascot - 7.30pm Sunday Evening in Sept 1982"

Myself Wife and 8 year old daughter, returning from visiting family friends,
Cnr. Wentworth Ave and Botany Rd. Mascot, (us in std. EH Holden Wagon)
boxed in by 2 Valiants with about 4 passengers each,of Middle-Eastern Gentlemen????? "Eeh! what you do in our suburb!! you get out! we rape you woman and kid after we slit you throat." when you hear that at 7.30pm in your own country you don't forget it remember 1982!!!

maybe that is why we moved back to Brisbane after 26 years in Sydney, left job, home, friends, FAMILY COMES FIRST that was just after a certain person arrived from Egypt

If they don't wish to assimilate then leave, their muslim forebears, right from the late 1800's assimilated so it not a new thing, same as the Europeans post WW11

    Uncle Ho.

Well I seem to have started something here.....At least it is getting people to think...... For the record, as Ho says....I am not racist, have'nt got a racist bone in my body, my bestest friend in all the world, a man I would, and have, trusted my life to is so black that on a dark night I have to get him to smile so I can locate him. He is a valued and much loved 'member' of my family.....he comes from and lives in another country.

I have very good friends who come from Belarus, from Croatia and Serbia (Strangely they are good mates too) I have two good mates who come from Germany and another one who is ex French Foreign Legion (not sure what he is, think his country no longer exists, have not pursued this with him as I respect his right to privacy ) also a particularly good mate who is Aboriginal who I go fishing with out west, he often stays at my home and is also a much respected and loved 'member ' of my family.

I have a Greek mate who just loves turning up at ungodly hours of the early morning knowing that he is always welcome. Thinking about it I seem to have more friends who come from other countries than I have friends who are born and bred Aussies. The one thing about all these people is that they love this country, they chose to come here because of our way of life, the afforded opportunities and the safety, they know that their children are going to prosper and be healthy. They contribute to our nation they all speak and read english although Franz will often slip back into german to get his point across. They are all fully employed, they consider accepting government hand outs to be dishonourable and diminishes them as providers for their families. They are all ex-military ( either special services or paras) from their various countries, we have all worked together in the past and I love them all, there are'nt too many things I would not do to assist them.

I have the utmost respect for people who come to this country and contribute to it, they have given us things like pizza and spagette bolanaise, and all those greeks dishes that I just love but cannot pronounce ( nor spell).

My beef is with the minority who come here and complain and insist that I change my ways and lifestyle to suit their needs, they require me to respect their way of life, but they have no respect for our ways or culture, they introduce all that is bad in their own counrty to ours, as far as I am concerned if you want to carry on as you use to in your own country, then stay there.

If you want to come here and adapt and assimilate into my country, and contribute to our culture then I will bend over backwards to assist you, and welcome the education that you can provide me.

On this site we have many valued members who contribute to the site, their views are able to be expressed and respected, I do not expected everybody to be exactly like me, (Would be a very dull and boring world), we all get along with only the occassional 'cat fight', Australia is no different.

My advice to people who want to move here is bring with you all that is good and honourable, add to my country, assist it to grow and develop,You are welcome, we will move over to make room for you BUT ! leave the ugly at home, we don't want it and do not try to make my country into a mirror image of what you have fled from.

Value our way of life, this includes Christmas, HO, HO, HO, and Christmas Carols, Easter and the Easter Bilby, bibles in the top drawer of the bedside table in Motels, Anzac Day, Long Tan Day, Rememberance Day, Australia Day, and mostly the value of giving everyone a "FAIR GO", If you find that you are not capable or wanting to respect this. DO NOT COME HERE, STAY WHERE YOU ARE. This country is not for you. Other wise "Welcome Friend what can I do to help you establish yourself in my country"

Y'know, if I moved to some other country, can't imagine it happening, but it might, I'm pretty sure that I'd want to eat Vegemite on my toast for breakfast, same as I have done most of my life. I'd be upset if someone told me I couldn't eat my Vegemite just cause I'd moved.

    Cheers
    Simon.

Love it But you wouldn't be demanding that the whole country start eating Vegimite (probably wouldn't hurt them though)

Like Vlad, I lived for a short while in Saudi Arabia.

I can assure you that we lived by their rules - or else. There was no concession for multi-culturism there.

In fact, I was continually disgusted by their treatment of my fellow (non-Caucasian) workers.

Man is that all you can ever do, is hop on a post and have a dig without actually contributing. For starters it isnt a document, secondly, I have seen that before, so who knows who Australianised it, and thirdly he never put it forward that he wrote it. People post up a video from You Tube without a disclaimer, this is no different,
