Seem familiar??? How about this one...

I don't mean to offend but this kind of false patriotism really gets under my skin. If you truly believed in the 'sentiment' I would of hoped you could have written your beliefs down in your own words not just copied and pasted an chain email which has been poorly adapted to an Australian version from an American source.

I can't find any evidence to prove the existence of the Muslim women in the South Australian drivers licence story and it only took 2 minutes and a one or two Google searches.

We do have a problem with SOME immigrants to this country but its only a very small percentage who ruin it for the rest. Spreading these chain emails will not solve the problem - just inflame the situation until we have all immigrants offside and the sentiment in this email actually become REAL. Because when an immigrant to this country who wants to live in this country as an Australian, reads this email what are they going to think? That they are welcome and wanted to further this country? Or that we, True Australians as the email would have it, are racist fools who can't make a rational argument supported with facts.

I have many friends who are immigrants or first generation Australians and I know they are hard working, honest people who live in this country because they want a better life for themselves, their families and their fellow countrymen. Sure, their religion is different to mine, they don't eat all of the foods I do, they don't celebrate Christmas like I do (although they do put up Xmas lights), they may speak a different language at home but in the end they are good people just like 99.99% of the people here.

They would stand up for me and I feel compelled to do the same for them here because I look at the attitudes displayed in this email \ rant and the attitudes that they display and I know which attitude I'd rather see in any true Aussie.

This chain email shows the dangerous and ugly side of the Internet... use the good side of the Internet to research some of the rants claims and so called "facts" and then realise they are baseless, flawed and out right lies. And then stop it spreading. My source if anyone is interested is here.

I want to repeat that I don't mean to offend anybody who has posted here, I've met some of you and know that you are good people but on this particular issue I disagree strongly with you and feel that something needs to be said because of the damage this email \ rant WILL do if it is allowed to continue.
Well put Dave, I'm with you

Australia's a great country because we know how to put up with each other . . . instead of public lynchings, civil wars, etc. Just because a few new arrivals don't know how to put up with the rest of us is no reason to get shirty.

Now, as far as who founded this country goes . . .

. . . do we dare mention the Aboriginal people who really were here first?

I think they made one or two contributions to white settlement . . . to say the least!

Note my bolded part, bit harsh to make that statement when you consider anyone who has sung the Australian Anthem?? I didnt write it and to be honest the best version I have heard lately was sung to the tune of Working Class Man. Also I am sure that all of us have someone who we know is "just tops", but is the issue with the cutting and pasting or with the content. Where it comes from is pretty irrelevant, its more who shares the sentiment that is important.

Ask the average Aussie, and that is Aussie from all backgrounds, do they have an issue with multiculturalism, chances are they don't. That will also depend on where they live. What is afforded here is not afforded in reverse, as Ron stated living in Saudi, and no doubt many others can profer similiar experiences. In fact, like anything, people will read into these things as they see fit. Yes we do have problems with some immigrants from particular countries, not unlike we have problems with those born and bred here. I wish we could ship some of them off too , but whether liked or not they have a "birth right".

The guts of it the way I see, wherever the "sentiment" came from, is exactly that, if ya dont like it here, take a hike. I think the average Aussie is getting sick of things in relation to their way of life been trodden on.....and it is. Not necessarily due to immigration and peoples differences, per se....but it is a part....but in general.

Except there is evidence that they werent the FIRST race on this section of the Earth, and rather they 'wandered' across when the land mass was joined.

Excavations showed a shorter more pigmy race inhabited Terra Australis long before the current Aboriginal races descendents arrived...

And initial studies showed that the war like Aboriginies slaughtered these inhabitants en-mass...

The entire European land mass was one race conquering another, century after century....

Its time to accept that that was not OUR doing, and move on...

I am NOT responsible for the actions of my forebears and never shall be.

However, I do recognise their addition to this nation and its history, and some of my friends are so called "Black Fella's" some of the best people I know...

We are all here for our love of Land Rovers.
Land Rover built the snowy mountans hydro.
Were driven by immigrants improted to work and build.
Every where there is somthing that has been improted that makes our culture. Bring your culture with you. Fine. You have the freedom to do that here. But imbrace the culture your entering also, however leave any hate, grudges and arguements behind.

    I personal live by;
    She'll be right.
Helping your mates and the bloke stranded on the road side.and
A slab is as good as cash.

Here's a good one, I have seen a relgious recurit refuse to shave, get his hair cut and wear a Slouch Hat. Then be issued 1X AusCam and 1X pollyester Turbin.

    Cheers, Easo

References please! These are interesting statements and I think it would be nice to see the source of this information (especially for archaeologists).

Interesting thread. The multiculturalism and integration issue is very subjective and not always clear. Some of you may remember back in 2005 there were riots in Paris. At that time I lived in Geneva only about 500 km from Paris. In part, the riots were caused by the government's 'integration' policy which demanded that children were not allowed to wear any religious symbols to school. That included, amongst others, crosses.
Was that a good move in order to 'integrate' or a breach of civil liberties?
What if the 'expressions of religions' were in fact expressions of culture and/or tradition?

Both integration and political correctness can both go too far. The issue here is to find a good balance and discriminatory rants do not do any good.
We also need to understand that our Australian way of life and culture is always changing - no culture remains unchanged. We cannot live in the past but at the same time we need to protect the basic values we stand for - what ever our language and to what ever god(s) we pray.

    C'mon guys, fair go!

Have you by chance heard the rest of Advance Australia Fair. The bit we sing is fairly tame. The rest of it smacks of typical british colonial views of Australia. Remember how they have treated Australia in wars in the past
