If you don't have a credit card, get a VISA debit card connected to your account. I went to the HSBC website (the best bank in this country, the planet and the known universe IMO) downloaded a single page form, took three seconds to fill it out and 4 days later a VISA arrived.... so now I've given Paypal with direct debit the flick, nice and easy

Hmm except that only works if the merchant accepts redit cards.

And as a seller its not possible (well practical at least) to set up a merchant facility to accept cards unless you have a HUGE turnover.

It means that EVERY seller HAS to register for PayPal. No option allowed as ALL listings MUST have paypal listed as a payment option.

SO Ebay are FORCING vendors top sign up with their subsidiary company.

    That's gotta be illegal ??
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Pay pal is way to slow.
    I prefer direct deposit.
I know I won't be selling on ebay again unless it is Pay on pick up.
Hope they get burned big time for being such a bunch of .........

I would rate pay pal 2 out of 10.

As a buyer, I like Paypal. It lets me use my VISA card safely and easily.

Will make things more expensive for sellers though

OZition have a long way to go to be a viable alternative. There aren't enough Buyers and sellers and their listings are a bit of a mess. This situation might be the catalyst that gets them there

I don't offer paypal on my items, too expensive and cost $1 per transaction and to withdrawl the dosh ti costs you about that much again from memory (been a while since I used it as a seller)

items for $1 starting bid will be a thing of the past with compolory paypal .

hundreds of buyers are being ripped off by unscrupulous sellers using direct deposit on a regular basis. it is just to easy to take peoples money and then not supply.

paypal comes at a cost but it can be very convenient and secure for some.

i am currently fighting an unscrupulous seller i paid by direct deposit and who hasnt nor looks like ever supplying what i bought.

there is very little comeback or way of getting your money back via DD

me thinks that ebay is being pushed into a corner over it....

the ebay feedback and dispute system should nail unscrupulous sellers.

Ebay really need to come at security from the other end. Sellers should be formally identified, 100 point check or the like to be able to list. Petty frauds won't be able to jump a hurdle like that and reputations will stick.

I was just thinking that after I posted my mesage.

Good for buyers, bad for the honest sellers out there and hits at the hip pocket. Like you said, sadly e-bay have become a breeding ground for con-artists and scumbags of society to rip decent people off like you and I
