the stuff i have used is a teflon impregnated fluid that looks and smells like polish but it behaves a bit different in my experience
i am told they also use it on planes to help keep them slippery.
you can buy it your self and apply it after using the precleaner that you should also purchase if you want the longest life out of it.
did my daughters old maroon commodore with it and the finish lasted over 3 years with only a wash every couple of weeks..
never seen normal polish last anywhere near that length of time.

Got offered it with the D3 along with tinting - both at extortionate prices.
When I started asking difficult questions, wanting to see literature and brand names so I could check up on it before agreeing, and asking to read the wording of the warranty, they suddenly got less interested in pushing it!
Didn't bother, as I also assumed it was a con. Also, their 100+% markup on the tinting led me to assume there would be the same on whatever this magical protection was...still haven't found out what they use, but would be interested to know.

I had a look for the name on the brochure: MotorOne https://portal.motorone.com.au/
It seems they put people into over 1200 dealerships in Aus. I read it as that the person trying to flog the stuff is one of their people, not Inchcape (Subaru)

"Do you want fries with that?"
Do not buy any extras through dealer, a lot more expensive and you also pay luxury catr tax too. (infact it may put the cost over the limit and you may end up paying on the whole lot)
Paint protection can work but buy aftermarket only.
As others have said just polish it every six moths and it will be better and cheaper.
Same deal when I helped my sister buy a car a while back. After we had haggled and finally agreed on a price (and signed), the dealer said, this is XXXX, she "talks" to all our new car purchasers. Said lady was a rep from one of the companies, did the hard sell on:
Paint protection
Fabric Protection
Tinting
Rustproofing
etc.
As with you, if I wasn't there my sister would have probably gone for at least a few of them...
Hello Ron (and everyone else)
I just had the bonnet and bumbers of my 2005 Astina SP20 resprayed due to fading etc.
When I looked at the paint protection paperwork that came with vehicle when I bought it new, it offers a guarentee as long as the protection is re-applied annually at an additional cost (something not disclosed in the sale!!)
I agree with most sentiments on this thread, don't pay for the extras at the dealers. Do the research and get (proven) working products applied at a reasonable price
With the Disco 1 I own, I find a thin film of dust/mud keeps the UV off the paint!!
Cheers

Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to say that I know that everyone hates the whole process of buying a car where the aftermarket girl or guy comes out. I have to say that when I met her, she was lovely and helped me through the whole process. She was actually more helpful than the salesman.
I did buy the paint protection from her and I think that it is the best thing I did. I bought a black car and I haven't washed it for a month and it is still clean. I bought this new one that has only beem out a few months, but it is am improved version of what the airlines are using apparently. This one is called Fusion paint protection and it treated the inside as well. I can't see the difference on the inside, but she says its there. I'll wait for a spill and see what happens.
I do have to say that the extra money was worth, cause the outside still looks like a just picked it up. She even gave me a free shampoo for the car. I have heard of Crystal Elements, but this is supposed to be better and I think it is!
We'll see how it goes, my wife is happy and that is all that matters!
