DeeJay, it is difficult to appreciate their size in these photos. They are actually about 3-4m long, but yes, the wings look positively puny.

If you olok close, this one has come back from a mission and has one rocket still on its RH side.

As I said, these are at Kandahar. Here at Tarin Kowt we have three different UAV capabilities. The ADF has a Boeing Scan Eagle. The US Spec Forces fly a 'TigerShark'...and the Dutch have just bought back a monster of a UAV called..............'Sparrow'.

I'll see if I can get some comparative photos.

Sorry mate, we are on the way...I have retasked a chopper and some nasty boys that like hanging out of them ....pack a bag and get ready to bolt!

    Cheers,

    BBC

Okay! Thanks.....I have pack my warm weather gear(Stubbies, singlet and flip-flops), and 15 plus sunscreen lotion ( can you get higher than that?), passport is up to date and the nasty bug shots, will I need personal protection? can I bring my sling-shot? , told the Boss I will be back in a year or two and to hold my position open for me, told the Missus I will be back in a year or two and to hold my position open for me, strange I didn't know that those two knew each other, must have gone to the same school as they both said something similar....something about it been a relief.....but I corrected them, I told them I wasn't going on a relief mission, told them I was going to give BBC a hand for awhile, I mean how much effort does it take to crash a helicopter, probably be able to do it with my eyes closed. Dust storms don't worry me...Missus reckons I've been walking around in a cloud for years, reckons I will fit right in there.

Tell ya boyos to look for me in the back yard, behind the shed, Have we got an e.t.a on that?...they can hot extract me from there.......K? ......K?.......

Does the Missus know there is another Boss...or, are the Bossus and the Missus interchangeable...? Man....U will be in trouble if the Missus thinks she has some competition and call on U!!

Did U buy yourself an IR Strobe Light from Bunnings on the way home?

Birds with a bit of 'sting'...

The Chooks can defend themselves from ground attack, with Electronic Counter Measures...flare system, and guns....a mini gun on each side and a machine gun on the back ramp, as such:

For those who have never heard a mini-gun being fired....it is one of the most distinctive...RRRrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiipppppiiiinnnnngg gg sounds you have ever heard...once heard...never forgotten.

    Lunch in town

Friday was the last day of Eid, the Islamic eqivalent of Christmas. Eid followed on from the 30 days of Ramadam, the Islamic observation which requires the people not to eat or drink in between sunrise and sunset each day for the month.

Me going into town is always done on the quiet. I trust my people and I know it is their direct interests to get me there, and back.

I was invited to share a meal with on the last day of Eid with people who work for me here in Tarin Kowt. It was a very humbling experience.

This is the men’s quala (compound) of where we had lunch.

In Tarin Kowt, there are four principal tribes, Papazai, and Alokozai are the two largest.

The tribal elder of Alokozai is a man called Peir Jan. The leader of the Papazai tribe is President Hamid Karzai.

Peir Jan is the ex-Mujahidin leader for Uruzgan Province for Uruzgan, who lead the battle against the Russians. Peir Jan has 5 sons, and I employ two of them. Here is Peir Jan

and here is he and some of his sons:

Lunch started at 1000h and we ate until 1330h:

The men sitting on this side are Papazai, President Hamid Karzai’s family. I was in good company.

The ‘flash’ jacket was gifted to me on arrival.

I trusted these people with my life, and I will never forget their hospitality, and their want to include and honour me as part of their family; humbling.
