Mate there is absolutely nothing innocent about Afghanistan or its many different people. Although my trips in were brief and during the late 80s. There country has never stopped fighting, either external enemies or each other.

Fascinating pics of a wild and rugged country, tough and resilient people and beautiful architecture. Some nice looking Landies too.
Pretty clear these people have been harassed by invaders for centuries. Wouldn't it be great if the foreigners stopped trying to take over and the people were able to organize their own nation free from interference.

Mate, traditionally they have been the invaders, that was until the Mongols turned up and destroyed every thing they could ( a bit of revenge there)
The atrocities they inflicted on themselves after the soviets left the roundabout make Porn port ( pol pot) look like an saint. pol pot just killed people, the Pakistani sponsored Taliban ( thus US funded) and other groups like 055, ( pommy money there) were quite regally filling there lonely days with skinning the locals, or the family next door, or the guy who looked at your Goat sideways, better still the pretty little boy down the road who will not oblige.
Some old pom got it correct
When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,

Still cute...but...it ain't gonna last forever!!

This was them some 4mths ago:

They are still here. Not really certain as to what is holding them here...there had been some media between the President of the TFG and the Ugandan President that they were to be cared for in Uganda until, they could be returned to Somalia....God knows.

They are much more amiable now, not shy anymore. In fact, they stick their paws out through the wire to be patted, they will lick your fingers, and enjoy getting their heads scratched.

One day, nevertheless, they will go from this stage of being cute, to.........ouch!

Be known for what you did. Not, for what you bought.

I was lucky to spent six weeks in Afghanistan in 1978 , travelled from Herat to Kandahar , Kabul , saw a caravan leaving Kandahar with 2,000 people, camels .
Then travelled through the Kyba- Pass on top of a truck, oh to be 24 again!
those photos bring back memories , thanks for putting them up .

    Cheers Stewart

The cubs seem much more confident in themselves compared to the first pics. They certainly look big enough to pack an 'ouch' now

    Keep 'em coming BBC
