i haven't had much to do with the press.
but on one occasion i escorted a film crew though (Chon Meck) Thailand Laos border crossing. not long after 15 Thai nationals were executed in cambodia while cutting trees and teaching the locals, for a local saw mill. a horrific even that shattered both governments and got the Vietnamese involved again ( sheesh)
the logistics of the op was quite extensive involving about 500 Thai, 200 Lao and 2000 Cambodian military. with sweeps and ambushes that when on for 2 weeks before the permits were issued for the film crew to get in. personally i thought it was all well done and all governments wished the world to know that there were still problems in the area and any aid would be nice.
personally i had spent a lot of time explaining the lay of the land etc.
about 2 months latter my grandmother passed away so i hoped back to NZ quick smart. on TV 60 minutes was showing the documentary. cool but i spat tacks when all it was on about was Thai smuggling hard wood from illegal milling in cambodia into thailand. what a crock. there was smuggling but that was further south and involved americans supplying arms for wood. Guns made in Singapore under license) i have never spoken to any one from the press since.
