    The Moz in Oz

    G´day all,

Been back on Oz for a month now.

Had received 30 days notice on the contract I had in Moçambique. The company that I was under contract there had the following issues:

    1. A legal tussle going on between the two larger shareholders...which was preventing them being able to forward to me their Articles of Association.... which would then have allowed me to incorporate and start the company up in Moz.

    2. In the space of a fortnight, they had lost their largest two contracts; one in Baghdad (the Aust Govt closing down the Aust Embassy and moving them in with the UK Embassy....the other being an aviation contract in Afghanistan.

Anyway, onto the `next best thing´ again.

Awaiting the award of the LNG Plant construct contract for Cabo Delgado Province, in the far north of Moçambique. If one company wins it I have been asked if I will be available to bring an Aussie company in, who are a pre-select to provide the medical service support to the construction workforce (8-10,000 pers for maybe 5 yrs).

The other prospect is me supporting the business development of the US entity that employed me in Afghanistan and Somalia....will be interesting if it gets up.

Was asked about my availability to deploy to Nauru (nothing to do with the detention facility) next week, for a month....company is London based...will wait and see.

As one of the 3 x Portuguese fluent Army Officers...I have also been asked of my availability to take up a project in Timor....and even more likely....me working at the ADF School of Languages, developing lesson material between English and Portuguese.

    We shall wait and see.

In the mean time, over 2wks, I took my Landy for a short drive from Melbourne, up to Brisbane, and back via Canberra and Sydney. Was bloody great! Caught up with family and friends there and back. The Landy cruised easily between 80-100km, there and back.

It had been such a long time that I had driven the full lengths of the Hume and the Pacific Hwys....so much has changed. Remember, when we used to drive through and see the towns on our way?? We don´t see those towns anymore.

Australia....and the cost of living....in particular, fuel and alcohol...ouch!!

With so much time spent away from "home" you ought to put the old Series on Club plates, should buy you some extra fuel..

    Update...or...Downdate?

    G'day all...or ...no outro lingua...Bom dia todo.

Still the Moz in Oz...here in freezingly cold Melbourne.

It is certainly a 'misty' world that we live in. I am employed.

I could not have imagined that I'd be...back in uniform. This Major is currently a Portuguese Linguist at the Defence Force School of Languages. Developing Assessment Materials that provide the assessment basis across all the 17 different lingos that are currently being taught here. It is an interesting place to work in..very multicultural...you should see the range of food types that get put on the table at lunchtime.

But still...I have my eyes on the horizon...with the intent to take up any opportunity that can/will present itself over in Africa...or, some of the other interesting places that are underway...we shall see.

Just now had a long conversation with the Maputo Security Manager of one of the Oil & Gas companies (the WO2 who was with me there demining...so I do trust what he relates).

There has been an impasse on the development of the No1 (ENI) and No 4 (Anadarko) because of investor concern re the fact that the Mozambique government had been drafting their Petroleum Law:

Mozambique Passes Petroleum Law and Tax Break for Eni, Anadarko - Businessweek

He related with me that to date, there had been no announcement made (or knowledge within Anadarko Mozambique) re the award of the contract to construct the Palma LNG plan. So...bit by bit...then there'll be a real rush. I am still well in contact with a couple of companies for when/if things line up.

But..doing what I am currently doing...'the language thing'...also reads well on my CV. Especially for this prospect:

Australian support for training and education

I have been contacted by SkillSDMC...the Australian Minerals and O&G Industry Training Council regarding the fact that they have responsibility toward developing the National Industry Training Framework for a country called......Mozambique...we shall see.

Bit by bit...little by little...life goes on. The most important bit...enjoy it.

    The Next Best Thing

    G'day All,

It has been a bit of time. I have been occupied, assisting with language (Pork&Cheese) instruction and assessment material development...eish...me being a novelist..and...an actor!..at our Defence Force Language School.

Then, two days ago I was asked if I was interested in a certain job, had a chat with some people in the company and now, I have a contract coming my way for signature and then, I am departing Oz next Fri...it is going to be interesting.

    Something different and somewhere different.
