Push the point, after they have rung it up on the till, don't hand over any cash until they ask you for age verification! Then threaten to report them to the liquor licensing mob!

I was refused service as she had no photo ID (as she was not buying anything).

So I said I would only buy the one I had and was still refused service and was told how did they know I was not buying it for her.

THIS IS THE LAW they said.

I have just been all over N.T. & W.A. with all their restrictions and have never had this problem.

Just a Silly question Mrs Ho Har , Why didn't you ask your Daughter to wait outside in the carpark and go back inside to buy the wine thru another cash register ???

hmm.... I have experienced this so many times but being younger it is very much different I suppose.

Now, on to your situation. The N.S.W. law and commonwealth I'm pretty sure are that a child is allowed to be with the Parent when buying and this is fine. I guess it is up to the child or parent to prove they are family? It's safe to say this is a grey area.

Look at it like this. What if a 10 year old is with you and picks the alcohol off the shelf for you or helps you take it to the counter do you think you'd be refused service? of course not. Do they want ID for that child or everytime you go to the store you won't be able to buy alcohol 'cause you can't leave your kid in the car either.

It's silly, I agree. And at the end of the day if people are going to buy for minors then they will and they will know the law and they just won't make the "mistake" you made and I've made more then once.

Just in addition after reading a few comments here- this has been going on for years. This ain't Rudd at all. I can remember 5 years ago being with a friend and they wouldn't give him the grog even know he was over 18 they said his ID was fake. I went back in 10 minutes later and bought it and I was not 18, never asked for ID or questioned me at all.

Hucksta can explain it better than me as he is one of Mullets finest.
It's all part of the "underage binge drinking" campaign.

Maybe Miss Ho Har looks underage and in the mind of the cashier he/she might of thought about the consequences if caught selling to an underage person via a third party....especially when Miss Ho Har had no ID

Then why would you bother going back there? I would be writing to the owners, probably Colesworths these days, and telling them that you and your extended family will never spend one cent in their establishment again, and you will be telling all your friends, acquaintances, colleagues, club members, lodge brothers, co-religionists etc. how you have been treated and asking them not to go there either.
