I like Mark Webber, he has continously improving. He has not always been in the best teams, and has never really had a good team mate to learn from. From what I have watched this year, it seems to be one of his more consistent years for qualifying and has not given up too many positions at the end from his qualifying starts, but on the same note does not seem to be able to improve on them either.

    hmm, typical responses really.
People that have never been involved in motorsport, or any sport at a high level just don't realise how difficult it actually is and how you have to have all your ducks lined in a row.

    Do I rate Webber ?
Yes, as I've watched him from very early on and raced against him, and he finished in front of me. Actually, he finished those races, I didn't

err, I don't think so, and he's recognised as being a damn fine wet weather driver, possibly one of the best.

The thing is that in the wet, car setup is just as important as in the dry. It's a fallacy that it evens out the playing field. What it does do is let those that have very good car control (a vast difference to being fast) and feel make the most of what they've got, but it's a damn lottery out there when it rains.

I've been involved with and setup cars for blokes that were afraid of sliding (to go fast the car has to be virtually out of control in the dry, let alone the wet) and couldn't drive out of sight on a dark night. Set it up right, give the bloke confidence and one fella was driving around the outside of much, much better drivers. 'Course the setup engineer was given no credit whatsoever.....

I've been with motorsport since the age of 5 from motorcross to speedway and i do know how important it is to have car/bike control and set up .
I'm not saying that mark webber is a crap driver at all far from it i think he is a great driver . Just hasn't got what it takes to be a race winner in the F1's . I know he had some great success in the le-mans racing which i think he is better suited to . nothing to say he wouldn't get into a v8supercar or a gt tourer and whoop **** . as i said i really hope he proves me wrong .

wannalandy, nick heidfeld wasnt doing alot better than mark in '05. i'll grant he was alot calmer for some of their time together, but overall, mark had the quali and race pace on nick. in number of points to his name for the time they were team-mates, yes he(nick) was infront. in saying that coulthard was better than webber last year... and wurz was better than rosberg for most of the same season... a good site to see how past races panned out- for anyone who is into f1, is VisionF1 - Formula One (F1) Race Replay Animation

i think that besides a few races early in 05, mark has driven very well. although he and sometimes the team, always seem to find a way to ruin any canadian races he's in.

another point to ponder is the fact that, yeah, he qualifies excellently but does crap in the race/ off the line/ never finishes where he starts/ etc, is largely due to his exceptional 1 lap pace, not his inability to race.

jaguars, modern day williams and redbull's, just arent as capable of running close to the ferrari and macca times over a race distance. tyres wear faster, heat up too much, more drag for a given level of downforce, less powerful engines, less $$$ to finesse each system to its 100% limit. so in the end, the bmw's and when relevant renaults/handas get by him during the races. either off the line wth their better launch systems(not now i know) or torquier, better mapped engines for off the line power delivery, or during pitstops where he cant do anything about keeping them behind.

i think that this year, all things going well for redbull/mark and other teams doing their best, 7th-12th is what they should achieve. some tracks redbull are 7th, some 12th. webber dnf'd in melb(brake exploded) then scored for 5 straight races, 7,7,5,7,4 i think it was, then a bad race in canada(chance and his fault- i think he spun?) then he scored 6th, then this last race where it was his fault(but damn fast too).
